David Bowie was always the bridesmaid but never the bride in the KoS games. He usually had a song in the final, and, before this game, his best result was two back to back number 2 placements with Space Oddity & Ashes to Ashes in the 70's and 80's No.1 games, respectively. The Deathlist forums might not be the best selling show (the most visited website?), but it has voted Life on Mars? as the best number 3 hit of the 70s. Rather fittingly, the previous winner was Murder on the Dancefloor, so now both the "Kill" and "Save" aspects of the game have been represented in a winning song, such poetry in motion that hasn't been seen since Johnny Tillotson. The Life on Mars? single peaked at number 3 for 3 weeks in July of 1973 (a lot of 3's in that sentence!), being beaten by Slade's Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me, Peters and Lee's Welcome Home, and Gary Glitter's I'm the Leader of the Gang. Whether you like those songs or not, they're surely a saddening bore compared to the winner of this game. Anyway, this is how the finale played out: 01 David Bowie - Life on Mars? 02 Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street 03 Mott the Hoople - All The Young Dudes 04 R. Dean Taylor - There’s A Ghost in My House 05 Electric Light Orchestra - Don’t Bring Me Down 06 ABBA - Money, Money, Money 07 The Jam - The Eton Rifles 08 David Bowie - Sound and Vision 09 Suzi Quatro- 48 Crash 10 ABBA - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) 11 America - A Horse With No Name 12 Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony - The Hustle 13 Donna Summer - Love’s Unkind 14 The Rolling Stones - Miss You 15 The Four Tops - A Simple Game 16 The Four Seasons - Silver Star 17 Edwin Starr - War 18 Lulu - The Man Who Sold The World 19 Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3 20 Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden 21 Creedence Clearwater Revival - Up Around The Bend 22 Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love 23 Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the Run 24 The Wombles - Remember You’re a Womble 25 Carly Simon- You’re So Vain (Spotify Playlist for this game) And these were the 25 worst No. 3's of the 70s: Cilla Black- Something Tells Me (Something’s Gonna Happen Tonight) The Piglets- Johnny Reggae Tony Orlando & Dawn- What Are You Doing Sunday? Blue Mink- The Banner Man Donny Osmond- Why The Partridge Family- Breaking Up Is Hard To Do Michael Jackson- Rockin’ Robin David Cassidy- I Am a Clown/Some Kind of a Summer Faron Young- It’s Four in the Morning Gary Glitter- Remember Me This Way Mac and Katie Kissoon- Sugar Candy Kisses Peters and Lee- Don’t Stay Away Too Long The Moments and Whatnauts- Girls Mud- The Secrets That You Keep Barbra Streisand- Evergreen (Love Theme from “A Star is Born”) Showaddywaddy- When Hank Mizell- Jungle Rock Berni Flint- I Don’t Want to Put a Hold On You The Barron Knights- A Taste of Aggro Dean Friedman- Lucky Stars Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley- If I Had Words Boney M.- Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Holi-Holiday The Bellamy Brothers- If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me The Dooleys- Wanted James Galway- Annie’s Song Thanks to everyone for voting, I'll try to get the 80's game running soon, but I'm a bit busy at the moment, so if I take some time, that's the reason why.

Welcome to another edition of Kill or Save. I suck at presenting stuff so I'll just go straight to the rules. If you wanna revisit the previous games, here are the links to their respective topics. 60s No.1s; 70s No.1s; 80s No.1s; 90s No.1s; 00s No.1s, 10s No.1 60s No.2s; 70s No.2s; 80s No.2s; 90s No.2s; 00s No. 2s 70s No.3s Christmas Special 2023 KoS HoF The Rolling Stones — Paint It, Black Donna Summer — I Feel Love Nena — 99 Red Balloons Madonna — Vogue Gorillaz — Dare The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale Of New York Barry Ryan — Eloise Queen — Somebody To Love A-Ha — Take On Me The Cardigans — Lovefool Sophie Ellis-Bextor — Murder On The Dancefloor David Bowie- Life on Mars? We've done this 12 times before, but here are the rules regardless: Each song starts with 20 points. You can vote once a day. Since we all live in different parts of the world with all sorts of different timezones, please add a date at the top of your votes to avoid any type of confusion (e.g. 3/7/24, 3th of July, Wed 3 Jul, etc.). Each day you can give 4 points and subtract 6 points to any song on the board, you can split your points between as many songs as you want. Placeholder posts are allowed, but if you don't edit your votes within 5 minutes, then the next person can go and do their votes. Consecutive votes are not allowed. Before voting, please listen to the songs of each round and vote according to your own opinions, don't vote for songs because they're high/low on the board or because of your opinions about the artist, only the song matters. Make sure you copy and paste the most recent voter's scoreboard when you take your turn to score. For your own ease, ‘paste as plain text’ to get rid of the previous poster’s formatting. Then, delete their +/- scores, add yours, adjust the song’s points total and make your scores bold. As an example, here's a random vote from last game's finale: Here are the UK No.3 songs of the 80's: There are 5 qualifying rounds, we begin with the no.3 hits of 1980/81, then 82/83 and so on. 5 songs from each round will enter the Grand Final, where we will decide the "best" UK No.3 Hit of the 80's 1980/81: 28 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. 1982/83: 32 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. 1984/85: 31 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. 1986/87: 33 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. 1988/89: 32 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. So with that out of the way, let the killing and saving begin!

It will be worse at first, there's no escaping that. Putting things right will be a long and rough road.

I remember the crushing feeling of 1992. As soon as Basildon called Tory, the game was up that night. I never thought I'd see 1997 again but my goodness are we close.

I wouldn't even like to make a prediction any more specific than Labour winning at least 400 seats, with a likelihood of them winning more than they did in 1997 (418), because I'm not just yearning for the Tories to come third behind the Lib Dems, I'm around 20% convinced it could actually happen. I don't think Reform will win more seats than you can count on one hand, I think the Greens will get 3 of their 4 target seats, and the SNP are going to get about the kind of pummelling the polls expect them to.

Mr Mercer stood on the roundabout with his wife and placards this morning. Up rocks veterans who said he's done nothing for them. Mrs Mercer calls the police. Police- what can we do? They're doing nothing wrong. https://x.com/AndyR960/status/1808433609298075746?t=JjqCy8MDVZvtccHuXHtAHA&s=19

Aye, totally with you, and also he blew his final seconds of phone battery ringing a mate in Manchester, likely got so disorientated in the final hour or so of dehydration that he blundered about, got lost and landed deep in a ravine. Surprised, a little, that the searchers didn't notice circling scavenging birds somewhere, but maybe the foraging ground animals got there first because he's deep in that ravine. Pretty sad, either way

1997 was the first G.E. I could vote in. I remember feeling full of hope and positivity for what a new Labour government could bring. I'm not feeling that at all now. I mostly just feel desperate to kick the Tories out and hoping that Labour doesn't make things worse than they already are. Whether that's because Starmer et al are trying not to rock the boat in order to gain power, or another 27 years of life crushing hope out of me, or some combination of the 2 I don't know. There's also this little nagging voice in my head saying don't forget 1992, a Labour win isn't a done deal.
