Hans Meyer - played Hauptmann Ullman in 23 episodes - born 21 July 1925 (aged 87); last entry 2010;obit chances possible rather than probable. A south african, most of his work has been away from these shores. Christopher Neame - played Lt. Dick Player in 17 episodes - born 12 September 1947 (aged 65); his last acting role was the appropriatley named Vanished in 2006, though he did do voicework for a Star Wars video game in 2011; obit chances - good, though probably not for a while. Pat Grant in 14 episodes; died aged 78 16 May 2011. Obituaries a-plenty. Anthony Valentine - played Major Horst Mohn in 11 episodes - born 17 August 1939; (aged 73); last role was in Coronation Street a couple of years ago. Obit chances - a certainty. Peter Penry-Jones - played P.O. Peter Muir in 10 episodes - died in 2009 pretty much unnoticed by the media and it would appear no obituaries were forthcoming!

    Video Game Nerds

This thread is for deaths related to the video/console/computer/mobile game industry, i.e. designers, composers, all kinds of programmers or even popular players of certain games. I thought this branch of popular culture was missing here. Of course, this industry is relatively new, so people haven't really started to die away of age, but maybe it starts soon, and people can die for other reasons as well. I'll start with two deaths: James Storey, graphical designer for Duke Nukem 3d, is dead at 41: http://www.vg247.com/2015/06/03/duke-nukem-3d-artist-passes-away-aged-41/ No reason was given. Also, Kirill Prokovsky, composer of music for the Divinity games, especially for Divinity: Original Sin is dead at 53: http://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-composer-passes-away No reason was given.

    Diane Abbott

It's the timing which makes me believe it's politically motivated. In the past 24 hours Labour have also abandoned Faiza Shaheen (wiki), a high profile candidate who was standing against Sir Iain Duncan-Smith in Chingford. She seems to be competent. Her crime? She liked a video on Twitter by U.S. comedian Jon Stewart which "appeared" to down play anti-semitism. That's hardly the crime of the century. She was a huge backer of Corbyn. It is a purge.

Kristopher Kent Hill, a child actor of the 1980s and 1990s who appeared in five episodes of Roseanne as Crystal's young teenaged son Lonnie and who had episodic appearances on shows like Webster, Golden Girls, Full House and the Wonder Years, died with little fanfare in 2019. I was tempted to go with Rover, but we've got our own @RoverAndOut and don't want to cause offence . Fenton also crossed my mind, but too many people don't know the video or mishear it as Benton. So, yes, don't know what happened to Fido really, seems dogs names have the same fashion issue as humans.

Watch the circulated 50ps part of this video especially My Whole Coin Collection!!! 4 Years Of Christopher Collects!!! - YouTube (36:33 onwards). Way, way more than any one person needs. He jokes about "having a problem", but this is seriously in the realms of needing actual help for a hoarding problem.
  17. Master Obit

    King Charles III

That guy is one of the biggest twonks on youtube. Exactly what is wrong with "collectors" nowadays. I saw a video once where he was showing off his "collection", proudly boasting "I've got 574 Sherlock Holmes 50ps!", "369 Miss Tiggy-Winkles!" etc. Yeah, good for you. That's not a collection, it's a hoard. A high-standard collection doesn't contain masses of the same coin, especially common ones. He could release 99% of them back in to the wild, giving other people the chance to find them and also giving him funds to buy much nicer coins but no, he would prefer to just sit on a pointless hoard. I shudder to think how many really nice coins he's ruined with fingerprints because apparently he can afford to hoard thousands of pounds of coins but can't spare a tenner for some gloves to handle them. There seems to be some definite interest in coins in this forum (and even a few fairly avid collectors), perhaps people would appreciate a coin thread? Anyone on board?

    Death Anniversary Thread

Chris Cornell died on this day 7 years ago, aged 52. - Cornell's birth surname was Boyle, but he took his mom's name after his parents divorced. - Cornell's first band was a cover band called 'The Shemps', and after they broke up, Cornell and some of its former members would form Soundgarden in 1984. - Soundgarden's 1988 debut album Ultramega OK would earn a Grammy in 1990 for Best Metal Performance. Their most well-known album was 1994's Superunknown, with its biggest single being "Black Hole Sun": This music video received heavy airplay on MTV and won the channel's award for Best Metal/Hard Rock Video in 1994. - Cornell would leave the band in 1997 due to disagreements on creative direction, causing it to disband until they reunited in 2010. He would write a song for The Avengers film soundtrack in 2012: This was not the only major movie Cornell would contribute a song to; he sung the theme to the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, "You Know My Name". - During Soundgarden's hiatus, Cornell would form the band Audioslave in 2001; he would leave the band in 2007, but it reunited one last time in 2017 at the Anti-Inaugural Ball (a concert protesting Donald Trump's inauguration as president) hosted by the band Prophets of Rage. - Cornell suffered from depression and substance abuse throughout his life, and died from suicide. Some believe this may have been the event that would eventually lead to the suicide of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington two months later; he was close friends with Cornell and performed at his funeral.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

I cheered. Now that I've seen the whole thing, I'm not surprised. The staging was dirty and sordid, and verging on the pornographic. The song was decent, but he sang it poorly. His voice was weak and out of tune. He thinks he's so sexy He's so preoccupied with showing off and being edgy that there's little effort put into the actual performance of the song. There's some hilarious comments on this youtube video of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0_FdJqyQW0 Even gay men are saying they didn't like it.

    Deadpool Detective Work

Back when I was a lad and YouTube was barely a thing, one video I have fond memories of is the French TGV speed record attempt that took place in 2007. It was a video that fascinated me then and still does today. I decided to watch it again the other day, this time to figure out more about the 3 crew members, other personnel involved and their current whereabouts. Found out in a French article that the lead driver and engineer (center of this photo) is SNCF driver Eric Pieczac, who was born in July 1960 and would be 63 now. Next to Pieczac on the left of the photo is SNCF traction engineer Georges Pinquie (around 70 assuming his age in this article is correct) who has since retired. Pieczac and Pinquie are definitely alive and well, both men attending mainly the "SNCF Patrimoine" (basically French railway heritage) events. The man on the right of the photo wearing glasses is SNCF traction supervisor Claude Maro who I would reckon is in his 70s as well especially as he apparently was there during the 1990 TGV world record attempt, I've found absolutely no information on Maro asides from that. Assuming he's alive as I don't think the French media would miss if one of their TGV record personnel died. Additionally the other two crew members in the 1990 record attempt are Michel Massinon who died in 2015 at the age of 69, and Daniel Vigneau who I haven't found any info on. The at the time Minister of Transport Michel Delebarre was on board the train for that attempt as well, he died in 2022. There was also an Aerospatiale Corvette jet that chased and monitored the train, shot a lot of the video footage actually. Couldn't find who the pilot was. If any French DLer here has more info or can find any more leads, let me know.

    48. Tom Baker

That's right, the big guy gets his own thread after his appearance on BBC1 tonight reminded me to start a fucking thread for him. Tom Baker, The Doctor Who to anyone with a vague awareness of the show, is 86 now, and has apparently been in frail health the last few years after a lifetime of booze started to catch up. Apart from his 7 year lead role in Doctor Who and its lifetime of pop culture references, he was also famously Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra. He's also the narrator of Little Britain, Captain Redbeard in Blackadder and the voodoo loving artist in Vault of Horror. Anyhow, here he is on BBC1 an hour ago: Proper future DL front pager.
