At my old place of work I cut out the face of this and taped it over my own on my work security badge.  It was in place for at least 18 months.

I can't see that painting without seeing this one in my minds eye

I’ll PayPal 50p to the first person that can somehow photoshop this onto Goatse.

Or this one.

One of the best Christmas cards ever sent to me.

Fucking hell, this thread certainly reminds you that the Deathlist users are overwhelmingly a little bit middle class doesn't it?

What next, favourite opera singer? Favourite west end drama?

Two painters have always stood out for me, Claude Monet with his waterlilies and Wassily Kandinsky:

Claude Monet Japanese Bridge Original | Claude Monet - Japanese ...

Wassily Kandinsky - 193 Artworks, Bio & Shows on Artsy

I love Kandinsky as well. I also like Chagal, Klimt, and maybe a bit predictably I like the pre- Raphaelites.

I don't know  whether it's because I have a long face, but I've always been rather fond of Modigliani's work.

I'll just leave this link here

http://firstknownwhenlost.blogspot.com

It's a blog, so there are some musings, but there are also masses of wonderful paintings, usually unknown to me.

Poems too.

In these angst-ridden emoji/meme-driven times, has this perhaps usurped Mona as the most famous painting(s) in the world? It' might have cheered old Edvard up as he reached for the port bottle.

Grant Wood’s American Gothic is one of my favourites as well, and one of a few very famous paintings that I love which are housed at the Chicago Art Museum (a great visit).
I am including the others herein:

Nighthawks (Edward Hopper, as I see @Toast started this thread with another of his);

Paris Street; Rainy Day (Gustave Caillibotte);

and my personal favourite - A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (Georges Seurat).  The sheer size of this work - coupled with it being pointillism - is awe inspiring.

I thought I would revive this topic and confess that I have recently reverted to a secret vice ..... jigsaw puzzles.

Currently doing a version of this painting, a lovely scene of Victorian Londoners having some wintry fun.

Sadly the reproduction is overexposed, so the buildings in the background are barely visible, which means doing the sky is going to be a bastard.

And here's one I did earlier ... the colours are astonishing.

Not sure who the artist is, it's been attributed to either Pieter Schoubroeck or Marten Ryckaert .  Some Flemish dude anyway.

Miss Boudicca and Sir Creep attended ‘Immersive Van Gogh’ in Detroit, MI.  We can’t post videos here I guess so allow these few still photos to do the event no justice.  It was great.

Btw if anyone fancies it, London and Dublin still have tickets and the venues will probably be better too.

The great thing about it for me was all the Americans being quiet throughout.

There was even just a subtle smatter of applause after the finale (Starry Night) with no whooping or hollering.

Astonishing.
