De Billiare would be a good choice for the 2025 DL if he's still around. Was the  Commander in Chief of British Forces in the Gulf War also director of the SAS at the time of the Iranian Embassy siege so will get  BBC and Sky Obits

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin has been hospitalized since Monday.

Specifically kept secret by the Pentagon for 4 days... Although they describe it as minor complications. Which generally wouldn't be something you keep quiet about for days on end.

Presumably, even if it’s minor ailments, you don’t want your enemies to know your defense secretary isn’t at his desk.

Jaakko Valtanen looking pretty good today, talking with the Finnish president Sauli Niinistö:

IMG_20201206_203358.thumb.png.a70f7af50d119dba559251fe52bffcf4.png

General Jaakko Valtanen, former Chief of Defence of Finland (1983-1990) and WWII veteran, dead at 98. He criticized the 1960s peace movements, as Chief of Defence greatly strengthened the Defence Forces and let more Finnish peacekeepers go on UN Middle East missions. He died at the Kauniala veterans hospital.

I think this possibly leaves David Musuguri the last chief/head of defence of a sovereign state to have fought in WWII.

And as Major General Stig-Erik Malmén died a couple of days before him, the three oldest living Finnish General officers are kontra-amiraali Jorma Kaisalo (95), Lt. General Martti Alatalo (93) and Lt. Gen Veikko Vesterinen (91) who was aide-de-camp to gen. Yrjö Keinonen and President Mauno Koivisto.

Updated the Long March list. I'd say there are around 12-15 left who will definitely get a death mention, multiple who could/likely will get one and the yellow names who very likely won't get any kind of mention except maybe a short "they're dead" mention in those yearly or bi-yearly lists in Chinese media, currently I'm waiting for them to release a new list. Zhang Lixiong, Wang Fuzhi, Wang Jingqun and Fan Xixian, maybe Suo Xinzhong are the most notable ones left I doubt any of them will get an English obituary as not even Wan Haifeng got one.

Wang Jingqun dead at 104.

Times obit for Major General Pat MacLellan MBE, aged 98, officer in command on Bloody Sunday.

How he doesn't have a Wikipedia page is beyond me. Wasn't on my radar as a result.

Very old Vietnamese General (and former Vice President, predecessor of Vietnam war diplomat Nguyễn Thị Bình in the role) Nguyễn Quyết has been in hospital for some months this year with heart problems, not the first time... However he looks quite good here:

I think he'll survive long enough to be a pick/hit for a few teams in next year's Centenarians DP.

General Nguyễn Quyết visited again, still in hospital:

I am starting to think they include the oxygen flow meter on purpose.

On the topic of "army generals who were also VPs", Try Sutrisno who has looked horrible for years looks even worse here last week, seate at 38 seconds in.

Gordon R. Sullivan, Chief of Staff of the US Army 1991-1995, dead at 86. (For DL search purposes Gordon Sullivan or Gordon Russell Sullivan)

Two of his predecessors are still alive, John A. Wickham Jr (96 this year) and Carl E. Vuono (90 this year). Vuono was still attending events as of 2019 and probably later, not so sure about Wickham who already looked very frail in 2010.
