Derby Dead Pool 2021

Fun fact: in my head I kept reading Paul Westphal as Paul Westerberg on my longlist and just went "well if the lead singer of The Replacements was dying I'd have heard more about it" and so didn't bother checking up on his health in late December.

So did you replace him?

For future reference, if its a Yahoo news story on the UK Yahoo, it's OK.

I was going to say "just like The Guardian", but they streamlined all their urls a year or two ago. Like how the Guardian used to be!

Thanks

And just to be clear - are these all OK too?

My understanding, unless @gcreptile wants to correct me here, is that these are sections of news akin to the sections on the BBC News website, and thus OK.

EDIT - That's a no on the correction front from Reptile as you can see...

Jesus Christ that’s at least 5 DDP hits we know about now, and it’s only January 2nd...

Shameless self interest but - re Michael McKevitt this might save a few seconds of searching - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55516992

And - likely to be useful to a few others - Floyd Little's death is mentioned in The Guardian - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jan/02/floyd-little-nfl-hall-of-fame-denver-broncos-running-back-dies-78

Same for me but I only had to walk for a half an hour.

Have a look at the Deathrace scoreboard Deadsox, then maybe take another walk - it seems to be working!

Of course, it looks like someone has picked *every single member* of the  current K2 climb (all renowned mountaineers in their own field) so if it does go badly, the DDP could be done and dusted by the end of January!

This DDP has been so slow. January 3rd and only 8 DDP hits so far? Come on man, it should’ve been 12 at this point...

Wow  excellent list!Uniques galore I'm sure! Makes me think if I should have put  Gerry Marsden  in  one of my DDP  teams rather than other lists but on the whole I'm happy with my DDP teams this year. I think or rather hope my efforts have paid off and I am teeming with unique picks also but time will tell.

Freda Kelly- goodness you do your research!

Bad luck Gooseberry Crumble!

A right kick in the balls for me, but a hit is a hit. Means my TOTP team has had a hit every year entered. The year is young mind....

Your kind sympathy is noted!!:D;)

He is  on my shadowlist  but that isn't in a competitive pool as such but might be a good early sign that I will get more than the 4 hits I got last year in my shadowlist!

A bit late for posting this, but here's my 2021 DDP team. First year I've entered (as Dead by Dawn) since 2017:

Tom Parker (joker)
Bobby Angelo
Kim Weston
Sidney Cooke
Katherine Jackson
Tim Curry
Russ Tamblyn
Robert Fyfe
Larry Storch
Winnie Ewing
Mary Holt
Michael Moore
Eddie Stobart
Sarah Harding
Philippe de Gaulle
Gail Halvorsen
Dilip Kumar
James Watson
Sister Paula Nielsen
Carlos Menem

Quite an old list so hoping for a high threshold of returns to make up for some points!

Aye, the same theme team is doing Deathrace duties. I may have started something there by putting the two lead climbers on the form guide and making a simple point about their points value if they were both taken out in an avalanche on New Years Day and one was also the dead pool joker.

Adventures in DDP hosting this weekend.

Last year I had to look up the new names on the dreaded Not Gone Just Forgotten team. That's Reptile's joy this time.

I had to look up the annual female porn star team instead.

Might have mentioned this to mrs msc. In hindsight, I could have phrased it better than "I've got four more porn stars to deal with, I'll sort them out as quickly as possible."

I think that's made her year so far, she's still laughing!

I'm afraid this is a breakdown in Cmme communication - possibly as Jenkins was picked last year so slipped through cracks.

So that's 3 crises's in less than 20 hours and we've not tried to upload any files yet! :o

What we're the other crises?

I forget one of them.

The other. So we're only in the "mitigating late circumstances" period and its 7.30am on New Years Day, and your favourite grumpy Scot here is hungover considerably. At which point my phone goes nuts. Emails, Facebook notifications. Whhhy. The emails were for PMs on here from Sir Creep, who started at raging at everyone mode. The Facebook messages were from Boudicca, trying to play good cop. The gist? Sir Creep went over to Scotland - note I couldn't see my own mum, but never mind - to his love nest, then back to America Land on Hogmanay. He got stuck in covid test hell sans internet and missed midnight so was asking for extra time. And assuming I could just change the rules UNILATERALLY.

So I woke up Grim (who was rather fucked off by this) and Reptile (who is the fucking Zenmaster*) and added Creep into a Cmme PM meeting so he could see us grumble. And at this point, the mitigation zone still had 3 hours to go. Which may have been mentioned already. The Zen Reptile told him he had an hour to put in a team, SIr Creep grumpied away and put in a team, the adults won out.

Anyhow it got averted and sorted all within the usual time.

*Seriously, that guy is shockingly calm about things. The entire system crashes? "Dont worry guys, I've got a can of beer here, I'll just go through 9000 lines of code to find the corrupt one...." and he fucking did it and all.

Well I'd have told him to fuck off, how the fuck was the cunt even allowed in the country.... As you say can't see own family but wanker flies across the world mid pandemic.

Anyway. If guerilla mail actually works you've got a 4th crisis. Might want to sift the teams full of old heads of states and random centenarians coming from sharklasers.com and guerilla mail variants. I'd give you a time frame but no fucking clue. And feel free to disqualify my teams....

Very nice words, Mr. Leader. It does help if you (I), among other things, work with Excel, and occasionally Access for a living.

And coding, well, I did it as a child on my C64, if anyone still remembers these. I mean, the programming languages, in the end, are similar. It's mostly the same system, like foreign languages of the same family.

I still have those error screens on my mind though, and was pretty much just about to give up when it finally worked.

If I had had to do the packed 3-4 weeks of checking and accepting teams that Grim had, I would have run out of the house screaming.

Similarly, if I had to do what you do, especially the human side of things, the way you tie together the community, I wouldn't be able to manage it (not to mention the record number of obituaries you had to write).

Well, let's hope it'll be less stressful this year. I guess the site will come online second next weekend.

With the efficiency we've gained over last year, I want to add new photos by the way. This year we couldn't do in a timely manner.

By the way, the comments above hopefully demonstrate the huge amount of respect our previous one-man-showrunners deserve.
