If he went to medical school, he could've called himself Dr. Hu.

The BBC seem to think it was more symbolic than for health reasons even through to me it seems like the actions of someone with dementia.

Western press does and I haven't seen an article by the largest UK/US sources that would even mention the parkinson's rumors. It's a good time to spread theories about him being "purged" from the inner circle as a power move by Xi or even killed, I've seen so many social media users with zero knowledge on Chinese politics spread the weirdest theories about how he was shot/beaten/burned to death/impaled with a giant iron dildo after being removed from the building and that he "begged for Xi to save his family" as he was "dragged out".

Could've just shat himself.

And he's not a boring subject for a thread. He's one of the men behind the rise of the world's second-most powerful country and his tenure as the Paramount leader cemented China as one of the major world powers.

I prefer Quadophenia to Tommy, myself.  Though, both are great albums.

I was nearly an extra in Tommy but I overslept and missed the bus.

Another stupid post by SC. Hu didn't see that coming?

If anyone knew Hu you were talking about…I would retract it.  Individual threads aren’t here for deadpoolers on DL, they have to be for people who actual households NOT YOURS have heard of.

According to Chinese state media Hu Jintao was not feeling well as he is "recuperating recently".

Recuperating from what? Heart surgery?

Quote from the article:

Quote
"...Hu Jintao insisted on attending the closing session... despite the fact that he has been taking time to recuperate recently. When he was not feeling well during the session, his staff, for his health, accompanied him to a room next to the meeting venue for a rest. Now, he is much better," state news agency Xinhua said on Twitter as the dramatic moment sparked rumours.

Imagine expecting some morals/manners from a site that likes to predict when celebrities are going to die. If you are offended by a joke, then just imagine being a person on the death list. It's a joke. Get over it.

Don’t be silly. Parodying a name is not racist. There are pun worthy names in all languages, English included. Most of the names that feature in the Moniker thread are western names.

Also, can I just point out he was head of a brutal communist regime and deserves parody? We’re not going heavy on the Chinese people. They didn’t even choose him… because they don’t even get a true democratic vote.

That was a power move by Xi, pure and simple.

Agreed,  'pure and simple' and likely the most straightforward explanation.

I saw this footage today too, and nothing is put forward to explain his condition.

For an armchair diagnosis, I suggest that it is normal-pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_pressure_hydrocephalus

Two of his three presenting factors are a fit (I don't agree with the 'obsolete' claim on Wikipedia - these are key markers of the condition).

Memory impairment - his confused manner, especially how he interacted with former colleagues and the issue of the file he grasped for

Urinary frequency - cannot determine

Balance problems & gait - he's been shown requiring aid for walking

As for the potential surgery, if it is NPH a lumbar puncture to drain fluid would fit.  Short sedation, 1-2 days in hospital.   Would get him fit to be seen in public for the spectacle we've seen.  The shunt to drain fluid doesn't seem to fit as usually there is a control device/monitor behind the ear to control flow of fluid - no sign of this in any footage.

That's the best guess given what has been made public.

Meme: The Chinese situation through the prism of Soviet history.

The original 1936 photo shows Stalin and Yezhov (People's Commissar of Internal Affairs)
