Derby Dead Pool 2024

Recommended Posts

Just need to update TTL and List of the Missed for October now... Excel is getting gremlins when I tried to refresh the TTL data (this is an issue with my personal Excel, rather than DDP) so going to take a breather rather than stress myself out troubleshooting.

Excel's usual method is still not working for me but I found a work around. TTL up to date along with LotL/M, as always any names I missed let me know.

Curious. Watching The Sweeney and looked up Johnny Shannon. Seems like he died in 2017 according to Wikipedia and this article.

How many hits short of the record are we now?

EDIT: 37 apparently. Will definitely be done.

A quick check of the numbers backs this up.  At the time of the quote, the number of hits was 275.  The current record is from 2023 with 312 hits.

2024 is already on the podium in third for number of hits at 279 on day 312 (nice coincidence) of 366.  Recall that two DDP years used are leap years (2024 and 2020).  2024 will certainly pass second ranked 2022 with 280 hits.

Table of yearly hits organized by decending total; only years with 200+ hits given.

Spoiler

Year Total
2023 312
2022 280
2024 279
2020 278
2021 275
2016 275
2017 254
2019 253
2018 247
2014 247
2015 239
2013 219

The daily hit rate in 2024 is above the rate of 2023.  2023 was high above the average daily hit rate of the previous three years (~0.76 hits/day).

Spoiler

Year Rate Hits Day of year
2024 0.894 279 312
2023 0.855 312 365
2022 0.767 280 365
2021 0.753 275 365
2020 0.760 278 366

With 54 days remaining and the estimated daily hit rate of 2024, it gives a new total of 327.  If a lower hit rate from 2020-2022 is used, it is still a record at 320.  Seems certain to be a record setting year.

Spoiler

Days remaining Possible hits Possible total
54 48 327
  46 325
  41 320
  41 320
  41 320

Of course records will be broken.

Since we now allow QOs from articles written in the Texas Tribune and oprahdaily.com then records are bound to be broken.

If breaking records is the aim why not include Wikipedia and smash all records out of the water?

Speaking of breaking records, you're like a broken record. Change the tune.

The majority of people disagree with you. If it bothers you this much then go and create your own deadpooling website.

And I am still hoping that I will be able to contribute to that effort and grand total even at this late stage...!

Technically, this is a QO for Roy Haynes, but blink and you'll miss it!

He'd have been 100 early in the New Year, even people with a job that keeps them fit can't catch Jimmy Carter!
