The Dead of 2024

Recommended Posts

Norma Padgett Upshaw, a White woman who falsely accused four Black men of rape in the Jim Crow-era South in 1949, has died. She was 92.  The group came to be called the “Groveland Four”.  In 2019, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued full posthumous pardons to the four.

Sorry, I couldn't decide where to post it: Shove Off, Eh? or British Character Actors, but I'm thinking better of posting it here.

British-Canadian actor Michael Sinelnikoff (Wikireported dead at 95, one month shy of his 96th birthday

Only FB tributes, no obit as far as I can see, saw him in some of my favourite movies like 300 (2006) and The Velveteen Rabbit (2009)

Reports that ex YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is dead. The poster (Dennis Troper) is her husband and I just cannot see him faking something like this, especially since he lost his son just a few months ago.

This is quite a big death because her presence was so persistent, even just as a name on the information page. I suppose 56 years, many of them with exorbitant wealth, may be a better life than the 80 years of scraping by that many people get.

I hate these bastards. They are just chuckling as I throw my keyboard against the monitor.

Not him particularly of course.

TV producer John Balson took his own life on May 17. Getting some traction in the media today due to the implications that the subject matter he specialised in - true crime documentaries - contributed heavily to a decline in his mental health, and his production company/Channel 4 weren't too bothered about their duty of care. He was the producer of that show where Emilia Fox has for some reason convinced herself she has the right to theorise about real people being murdered because she played a detective once.

Article here on John Balson, and the circumstances leading to his suicide.

Not sure, which thread would fit, thats how I posted it here.

Possibly could have been in the baseball thread since his son Pete La Cock was an MLB player.

His HPDP pickers breathing a sigh of relief that his son's baseball career wasn't a "like father, like son" deal :D
