Although I'm an ABBA fan, neither of these selections is a personal favourite, although both are a decent bop as all ABBA songs are. Gimme is better than Angeleyes though.

Grease the musical is a good fun show. This track however is just a disco-y bit of fluff that doesn't really fit in with the rock'n'roll feel of the rest of it.

Try as I might, I just couldn't recollect Angeleyes (my head just kept giving me Roxy Music's Angel Eyes); was Voulez-Vous favoured for airplay?

Angeleyes did not make it on to ABBA Gold but did get included in a Bonus disc edition in 2002 along with the actual best ABBA song The Day Before You Came

Same and yes. Also there was a video for Voulez and apparently not for angel eyes.

The Day Before You Came is absolutely a masterpiece. Love it. Close run thing, personally, between that and The Winner Takes It All for their best song.

ABBA are very hit and miss for me. Angeleyes and Voulez-Vous are poor, The Winner Takes It All does absolutely nothing for me, Gimme Gimme Gimme is middling. The Day Before You Came, however, is such a work of art. Eaaasily their best song imo.

ABBA, on the whole, weren't trying to create high art, they were trying to create catchy pop music and were incredibly successful at that. But they were also capable of being more daring and experimental. "Winner" is heartbreaking, but you've got to buy into it I suppose. "Day Before You Came" is great. So's "Eagle". And some of the stuff on "The Visitors", their final original album, was really pushing the boundaries.

Winner is easily my favorite ABBA. I love their poppy territory as well but Winner just in a class of its own.

Some of the crowd-pleasing stuff is alright, much of it isn't. As I say, Gimme Gimme Gimme is fine, Waterloo, SOS, The Name Of The Game. But Day Before You Came is leagues ahead of that stuff. It's utterly gorgeous.

Winner leaves me cold. Dancing Queen is irritating. Mamma Mia has been ruined by one of the worst films ever. Take A Chance is woeful. Chiquitita is dull. A lot of their stuff is karaoke fodder, and karaoke can be a laugh, but the songs *everyone* bloody picks are never the good'uns.
