Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted November 29, 2015 She's long gone now and she didn't quite make it to supercentenarian status but here is an interview with a very sharp 105 year-old who was born back in the 1880s that I found fascinating: Pity Carson jokes around with her so much he doesn't really probe into her early memories or what life was like for her as a kid that much or her views on the world today. Still a fun view though.

YoungWillz 21,047 Posted December 29, 2015 Just some random stats for anyone who is interested: For those who don't know, the nation of Australia was created on the 1st of January, 1901 (for better or for worse.) Prior to that, it had been a cluster of British colonies. I decided to look up the last surviving colonial Australian and it seems to be one Mrs Miriam Schmierer who died in September 2011 at 112 years of age: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_Schmierer The current oldest llving Australian is Ethel Farrell, born on the 27th of November 1902, when the country was still under two years old. Mrs Farrell, was however, born over in India (also, of course, a British colony at that time.) Farrell is also the only living Australian centenarian at the moment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Australian_supercentenarians Death Notice for Ethel Farrell: http://tributes.theage.com.au/obituaries/theage-au/obituary.aspx?n=ethel-dorothy-farrell&pid=176975110 She was 113. YoungWillz 21,047 Posted January 11, 2016 Good to hear Ruth Newman has had her longevity verified while alive. She survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and is still breathing. *insert random plug for 2016 Deathrace here* Good indeed that she got verified when she did, less than a month later and she's now dead. Leaves Bill Del Monte as the only known survivor of the 1906 SF quake. Alas Bill Del Monte is now dead. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-obit-1906-quake-survivor-20160111-story.html What an after shock! Edit: Hit for gcreptile on Hare's Dead Pool. Still a fun view though. I was thinking the other day that what I'd really like to see is an interview with someone who still had their wits about them who turned 100 in the mid=1970s. To have gone from the High Victorian era to the age of disco and flairs would have been one hell of a journey!

A marginal case and one worth briefly debating; a concert pianist of some standing so interesting because she's probably obitable in the lower hanging dead pools, like mine, regardless of age. Also, did the feats of memory required with her music contribute to the current lively state of her 113 year old brain?

RadGuy 1,614 Posted January 19, 2016 http://abc7chicago.com/society/man-thought-to-be-oldest-in-the-world-dies-at-117/1165401/ Coincidentally, another "oldest man" has died. This guy was unverified to be 117, but of course my dumbass local news station says he was the oldest man. And somebody left a comment under the Facebook post saying that his great-grandpa was 120. Why are people so quick to believe age claims? Fuck it, I'll just say I'm 225 and get publicity.
