Don't think any of us did.

RIP. Didn't expect him to go so soon.

Following Weighton's death:

- Joan Hocquard (born March 29, 1908) is the UK's oldest person, aged 112.

- Harry Fransman (born November 25, 1911) is the UK's oldest man, aged 108.

- Possible candidates for world's oldest man include Dumitru Comanescu (Romania, born November 8, 1908) and Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia (Spain, born February 8, 1909), both aged 111.

An unverified claim if ever there was one.

Oba Samuel Afolabi, the Onilua of Ilua in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State and its oldest monarch, has died. It's being asserted he was 141.  It gets better.  According to the obit, he's BELIEVED to be the oldest king in Oyo State. But I guess they're not sure. :scratchhead:

He hadn't made it public by the sounds of it. He might not even have known - he seemed fairly chipper when certified only a little while back?

Some Romanian bloke takes the title.....

Dumitru Comănescu, from Romania, is now the world’s oldest man, aged 111 years and 202 days.

Which I guess means were now at the point where Eastern European records are valid, opening up more possibilities.

I reckon, out of the two, the older one will get the title.

Quite a leap from Bob to Harry. It takes a slight mental readjustment for an old f***** like me to realise that every single male that was alive on New years Day in 1911 is dead.

It seemed like only a few years ago we were talking about people born in the 1890's.

About the 1890s part though, that was at least 3 years ago

Looks like Joan Eileen Hocquard will be Britain's oldest person if she gets her age validated.

108 year old (Harry) Henry Fransman is now Britains oldest man by the looks of it. But 39th oldest person.

Was also the UK's 3rd oldest man.

Means there is now one British man born in 1911, and one born in 1912.

Just heard about the passing of Bob Weighton. RIP,  at least he lived a long remarkable life. 112 is a huge achievement!

I assume many didnt expect him to die this fast. They even noted the cause of death, cancer. Usually nobody bothers with the cause of death for people older than 90, much less Supercentenarians.

At least he actually looks like a super-centenarian unlikely sprightly Bob, although that probably means he'll live another few years.

Irene Triplett is 'only' 89 but is the oldest (& conversely youngest) person to still be receiving a pension from service in the American Civil War which ended 155 years ago! Her father who saw active service (& also reputedly saw Abraham Lincoln who was shot in 1865) was over 80 when she was born.

Irene Triplett is, how you say, no longer drawing that pension...or breath. By which I mean she's dead: https://www.wsj.com/articles/last-person-to-receive-a-civil-war-era-pension-dies-11591141193
