I'm coming to England in early Feb next year for about three weeks, it is not so much a holiday as it is a vacation. Although I have business in London I should have a few free days to explore your wonderful city, having never been to London, before traveling to Devon for 2 weeks.

 

The people I'm staying with in London have asked me to compile a list of sights to visit while I'm there, so if there are any Londoners in the forum who could recommend places off the tourist track, preferably pubs and/or taverns, it would be much appreciated.

If you're after the true home-from-home experience, then the notorious Redback could be the place for you. Although it's a mere hop, skip and a barf away from me, I've never ventured in and, short of being frogmarched there at gunpoint, I doubt I ever will.

I was under the impression that BA and a few other airlines do a "round the world" ticket. Costing about £2,500. You can make between 6 and 10 flights. Is that what you have been looking at, that's now £3,500+?

1. If you are looking to go over Xmas try going a week or so earlier or...
   
2. Fly on Xmas day/new years eve as these are less popular, and after all are only arbitrary dates!
   
3. The cheap fares may not have been released yet.
   
4. Perhaps book seperate return flights UK to LA then LA to NZ.
   
5. If you do go for a round the world ticket do a stopover in SE Asia to make the most of your stay!

I've just spent a lovely few days with my in-laws in Looe. Splendid weather. Richard Madeley walked past me while I was stood outside Somerfields (or Co-op or whatever it's called), he was on his own, looked rather hassled with windswept hair, a rucksack, a casual white shirt and denim jeans. Judy was nowhere to be seen (however my thick daughter did say 'Is Judy Finnegan Michael Finnegan's sister?) - then the next day I saw Dick Strawbridge in Asda in St Austell. I'm afraid I have no photographic evidence of my A list celebrity encounters, you'll just have to trust me. Dick looks younger in real life, and his wife is quite short. (I assume it was his wife. It possibly could have been sister/daughter/mistress/hairdresser.)
