You know who is still alive? Norman Kember.

With the fate of most of the other Iraqi hostages from 2004, little wonder my memory keeps assuming he was killed at the time. But no, 85 and still going.

Good work, that's the furthest apart Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson have been in decades. Keep up the torture and we'll cash in on both of them.

Lloyd Price, who had the first censored #1 in US chart history (a version of "Stagger Lee" that obfuscates the pimping and murder). I would have assumed he'd bit the dust some time in the 1970s amid a large pile of cocaine, but he's 83 and still with us.

Rentaghost...From Wiki, so do not blame me for inaccuracies

  • Michael Staniforth - Timothy Claypole (dead 1987 of The Aids)
  • Edward Brayshaw - Harold Meaker (dead 1990 of hapless chumpery)
  • Ann Emery - Ethel Meaker (sister of Dick of that ilk. Alive apparently)
  • Anthony Jackson - Fred Mumford (1976-1978) "He died suddenly on 27th November 2006, having been taken ill during rehearsals of "Waiting for Godot". Hopefully he wasn't playing Godot, that would have been a long performance.
  • Michael Darbyshire - Hubert Davenport (1976-1978) (Old Victorian ghost, Died 1979)
  • Molly Weir - Hazel the McWitch (1977-1984) (dead 2004, surfeit of shortbread)
  • Sue Nicholls - Nadia Popov (1981-1984) (Still very much alive and in Coronation St)
  • Christopher Biggins - Adam Painting (1978-1983; intermittently) (Very much alive)
  • Hal Dyer - Rose Perkins (1978-1984) (Apparently still alive, and a member of the On the Buses fan club)
  • Jeffrey Segal - Arthur Perkins (1978-1984) (Alive)
  • Lynda La Plante - Tamara Novek (1980) (as Lynda Marchal) (Alive and cranking yet more out potboiler crime series)
  • William Perrie, John Asquith - Dobbin the Pantomime Horse (Ah, who f*****g cares)

Reportedly Ann Emery has died. The above list needs a serious update.

Watching the Yes Minister/Prime Minister repeats on BBC2 has reminded me, so far, that Sydney Lotterby (b. 1926), Arthur Cox (b. 1934), Moray Watson (b. 1928), Andre Marrane (b. 1926) and Oscar Quitak (b. 1926) are still with us, and all highly obitable.

Amusingly, Quitak plays a Trident opposing adviser in YPM, and later shows up as a nuclear sceptic science advisor in A Very British Coup. I wonder if the latter was an in-joke.

Now here's one I certainly thought was long gone:

Alf Ramsey's widow.

Makes me wonder about the other pre-1990 England manager widows:

Lady Ann Winterbottom, b. Feb 1923 - alive as of April 2013.

Norah Mercer d. 2013

Elsie Revie d. 2005

Lucy Greenwood - outlived Ron but has kept a low profile since, think she's still about but unsure.

Elsie Robson - still going, born circa 1937.

Lady Winterbottom and Lady Ramsey will certainly obit.

Good spot

Couldn't find - albeit on the back of two minutes surfing, tops - any evidence Lady Winterbottom is dead. You'd assume some mention; even if only on the curiousity value of how long she'd lived. Hell, this lot and Harold Wilson and Anthony Eden's widows plus those of a few television stars - that's a top theme team right there, eh?

Hmm, next year a theme team called Widow Cleaners, mayhaps?

(Awaits Toast telling me it's mayhap, or it's only to be used with the past participle of a subjective pronoun or summat  )

Ursala Le Guin.

Turns 87 tomorrow and I thought she was long dead.

Think I was confused with Marion Zimmer Bradley , who I thought was alive.

Totally missed her death and all the peado stuff about her.

Whenever I see that misspelled word I get a mental image of one of these.

Seems an opportune time to update the lists from last year to include those mentioned on the thread in 2016 and deleting those who have died.

Sepp Piontek, manager of the hipster's favourite football team, mid-80s Denmark. Didn't realise he was only in his mid-40s at the time.

Barry Chuckle. He's 'died' so many times on Twitter it's become received knowledge. Blows my mind to see he's still going! 'Post truth' in action.
