How the fuck Tony "Doc" Shiels continues to breath at 81 is anyone's guess. Last clapped eyes on him over 20 years ago when his alcoholism caused some disruption to the first Fortean Times Unconvention. Obit chances in major dead pools highly chancy - but here's a four year old photo of Doc being Doc

So, over the weekend there was an article in one of the magazines about Saskia, the 31-year-old daughter of Don Tidey. Tidey's obitable and within sight of his 90th birthday, a book came out last year telling the inside story of the most memorable and dangerous days of his life when he was kidnapped by the IRA in 1983. He married the music teacher of his (then) youngest daughter and fathered the current sailing champion years after the kidnap. and he's planning to be there to watch her compete for a medal in Paris.

It is surprising to see how many female actors (aka actresses) who appeared in Alfred Hitchcock films are still alive.

Here are some of the best known with their current ages:

Eva Marie Saint (100)

Tippi Hendren (94)

Vera Miles (94)

Kim Novak (91)

Shirley MacLaine (90)

Julie Andrews (88)

Barbara Leigh Hunt (88)

Tom Troupe. Seemed the kind of Person who just would not last after being widowed, but is definitely beating the odds.

Doing some Googling ahead of putting a radio show together, hadn't realised that Cliff Bennett sometime leader of 60s pop combo the Rebel Rousers seems to be still around - turned 84 a couple of months back, likely obitable fit for even the toughest dead pool q/o standards

Sandy Gall. I was just watching something from the 80s and he looked fairly old then.

Edit: looking at posts on his thread he seemed to have been doing alright recently. Must have just been a bad day.

legendary franco-romanian composer Vladimir Cosma (wiki) is still alive at 84. I was 100% sure he died several years ago but I may mistake him with Francis Lai

I'm surprised there hasn't been a QO yet.

Without checking, I think that makes Jean Marsh the last remaining credited performer in Frenzy.

Pretty sure The Guardian, Telegraph and Hollywood Reporter are coming, one of the ladies of Hitchcock's films

I didn't know that populariser of ancient astronauts nonsense and convicted fraudster Erich von Däniken was still alive. Now 89 and very obitable.

Fairly sure I've discussed him, still gigging well into his 80s, largely because convictions and his own mismanagement of money have obliged him to keep getting up on stages. He'd sue the likes of Ancient Aliens for nicking his ideas, but he nicked them in the first place!

Very niche, but: Daniel Sternheimer, one of the two doctoral advisors of the Bogdanoff brothers is still alive and must be very old.

Also, John Rees. Final lover of Grace Metalious among other things. Metalious has been dead for 60 years.

Living in Thousand Oaks, California, her DOB is like IMDb "Sep 1925".

If she died off radar in the last few years, her name will be listed in SAG AFTRA like others

SAG-AFTRA often miss people. Hence why in their magazines the In Memoriam section always contains deaths from 2, 3, 5, even 10+ years ago, as they've just come to light.

Well looks like Margery MacKay (IMDb) was alive this whole time, she died on Apr 29, 2024 at the age of 98, and was listed on our last edition. Luckily!
