Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Recommended Posts

More fuel for the fire:

FFS, LB@5O'C, this thread is Njava script:emoticon('', 'smid_1')

<_<OT the "post some lists of people, all of whom have received similar accolades" thread, it's a thread in which you are supposed to suggest names of celebrities who are, in your opinion, likely to die (and, therefore, would be good candidates for the deathlist) in 2007.

Do you think it's amusing or clever to keep posting long lists of (mostly healthy) people? Are you going to invoke Lord Cthulhu's influence as some sort of lame excuse for this?

Come on Mods, please one of you have a word, ffs... I'm sick of trying to highlight this blatant post-whoring, making myself look the twunt; I'm in serious danger of post-whoring myself in the process. Am I the only one who notices/gets pissed-off with this spam? I hope not.

Ah... and I thoughtit was just me! I couldn't figure out why these lists of mostly wholly irrelevant people kept being posted, but as I wasn't paying them much heed, I thought maybe I'd somehow missed their relevance.

And didn't I read somewhere, LB@5oc, that your "information" is derived primarily from Wiki? :D

They really do seem to be quite useless, and a waste of time generally.

I haven't seen any posts anywhere about Ian Carmichael (b.1920). No-one has him in the DDP. I thought he might have been in the Carry On thread but can't find him on a Carry On cast list either. He seems to have disappeared.

Ronald Neame (b. 1911) I wouldn't have thought will last much longer. Among those listed individually by the BFI on their site, he is about the oldest alive.

Carmichael's still working, he's in The Royal every week on ITV. Tony Britton turned up on that one on Sunday! Both of them look, obviously, older, but still look robust & both are still obviously working....

Neame won't drop yet. I see him reaching 100 the way he's going on.

Thanks OoO, it does seem as if age can be no longer regarded as a reliable indicator of a pending demise. Yet looking down that BFI list there were very few left from the 1910s and none from the 1900s. The most productive seam is probably among those who have not maintained Boudicca-like regimes all their lives. Even then, it's difficult. Peter O'Toole, for example, should simply no longer exist given his fondness for baccy and drink yet he is being tipped for an Oscar in his latest film, Venus. Someone placed a £100 bet with William Hill at 33-1. How about this scenario: he gets the nomination, then dies on the eve of the Oscar ceremony where he wins it posthumously.

John Straffen, Britain's longest serving prisoner, "celebrates" his 55th year behind bars this summer. All that porridge can't be good for you.

B)

You should see how these elderly prisoners are treated when outside prison.

I was visiting Aberdeen Hospital last night and when walking though the corridors was past by an old man in a trolley like wheelchair. The man obviously wasn't well. He looked rather frail, perhaps in his mid seventies. To top this off he was wearing an oxygen mask and leaning to one side.

Anyway, to ensure this man could not escape he was handcuffed to his trolley/wheelchair which was also chained to one of the two 'Reliance' staff who were escorting him.

He was hardly going to escape without all those procautions in the first place.

Ah, but some of these old lags are crafty, you see, especially north of the border. They lull you into a false sense of security, until the guards say 'oh, we don't need to cuff the sweet guy,' and then BAM! Old guy's leaping out the chair, throttling one guard with the oxygen mask hose as drop kicks the other.

I saw Larry Grayson do it once.

Spry, you see, nimble as Jodie Marsh on a vibrating bed.

Yeah hi, Gelgoog (do you mind being called 'goog' for short?')

Oh, and I'm not that hot on African politics, but I rather suspect that there might be a few white farm owners who are hoping that your first choice bears fruition.

I've read and re-read the last sentence and I'm not happy with it...it doesn't feel very politically correct, but I'm confident that it'll be taken in the vein that it was intended.

I'm going for a lie down...I'm actually giving a crap about being politically correct....

By the same token, I would imagine there will be plenty of black Rhodesians Zimbabweans who would be happy if Ian Smith goes.

Weclome TGoD, and thanks for the nominations. Had completely forgotten Brett Sommers was ever alive. I wonder if she'll be joining Gene Rayburn on Match Game in Heaven any time soon.

Can't be bothered to trawl though the posts on this thread, but has anyone mentioned Charles Taylor (former Liberian president)?

He's just been captured and will be going on trial for war crimes soon.

He is going to be sent to The Special court for Sierra Leone for trial,

unfortunately that body only has the power to confiscate property and imprison. So no death penalty is possible.

Therefore unless Charles Taylor kills himself or is murdered, he is unlikely to be a corpse anytime soon.

TF,

The last part of your reply was what I was considering. Perhaps worth keeping an eye on to see how the trial is progressing. Not sure what the conditions are in the jail he would be sent to if he's found guilty

Well, in all the hoo-ha about Charles Taylor, can I quickly mention that Tommy Burns, the footballer & manager has been diagnosed with skin cancer. I know he's quite young & what he has isn't as serious as some other cancers, but my aunt died of the same thing at about the same age so..

Also, how interesting that in, this, the greatest week ever for my football club, this man, (well, of those living) who did the most to wreck it & send it to oblivion, gets his come-uppance. :o
