She played a plethora of tunes spanning her days with Tina & The B-Sides and her solo material I'll be back working for her tonight. Phantom 2,531 Posted August 30 Worked 2 nights for Marky Ramone at the Minnesota State Fair. It was basically Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg. But, it was billed as Marky Ramone plays the Ramones Classics. 35 songs at a breakneck speed. First night, we were packed out. Second night, storms kept quite a few people away. They played a fair number of tunes from their latest album "A Little But Of Sun" and the rest from their previous 3 albums. Capped (and sold out) at 1800 punters, it was just the right amount. food and drink at local not festival prices like £6 a pint £7 a burger. Punters from kids to a 93 year old doing her first festival, and it was a great friendly rural atmosphere. Main stage. Second stage and a dj tent saw everything from Irish folk through to Reggae, drum and base. Brilliant sets from ELO Encounter, The Veltmans, Rosie Frater Taylor, John Otway, Toploader, and many more, and Don Letts and Jazzy B (soul 2 soul) rounding off each night with superb DJ sets.. Best for me though we're Cuban Brothers who were just bonkers and really got the crowd going. Heaven 17 surprised me with just how good they were. But the Dutty Moonshine Big band were just something else. Impossible to pigeon hole, just look them up. Electro, swing, drum n base, dub, hip hop, samba, reggae type stuff all with a brass band thrown in., The main tent was jumping for them. Look up the website, you'll get a feel. After only about 400 punters in '23' due to various reasons, the organiser deserve major plaudits for a great job done, and roll on 25. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I'm not a fan of the argument that when a key member of a band dies or leaves for whatever reason the band should change its name. ACDC, the Who, Led Zeppelin and probably others too. If you are talking about the key member of the band leaving then it happened to pink Floyd twice and also Genesis as well. With Queen I might agree with you though! But for purely practical reasons the Queen brand is worth billions and they were never going to say goodbye to that. As co-lead singer Chester was a key member of the band, but Mike Shinoda has always been the key creative force, and others have been important too. They waited 7 years which I think is pretty respectful by anyone's standards, and they have come back with something that sounds truly great which also respects the previous incarnation of the band. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Wierd Gig, started really well first five or six numbers but then degenerated into some self indulgent guitar wank and vocal guitar gymnastics in songs that seemed to end many times as they milked the applause to death. Almost felt prog rockish at times. Left before the encore to mop up the blood from my ears bleeding. Each to their own I suppose. Earlier last week I’d seen young singer/song writer Ladybyrd at the Half moon Putney. Quite impressive. Not sure what direction her career will go in, but certainly has a voice on her. On to the brilliant Sam Fish At Koko London next week. 5th time I’ll have seen her and as female blues guitarist and singers go, there ain’t many better. His gig was moved there because ticket sales were absolute shite and he wouldn't have filled a quarter of the Corn Exchange building, the usual music/entertainment venue in our town. She recounted the time, not too long ago, when Andy Parsons also had to move from the main venue to the small one ( poor ticket sales again) and how utterly fucking awkward it was watching him die on stage. Toast 16,106 Posted October 11 I was going to see Peter Hook and the Light next Saturday but have sold my ticket. It's an all-standing venue and the show will be three hours plus an interval, and I'm just not up to standing that long now. A legacy of having covid in the summer, although there does seem to be a gradual improvement. In compensation I happened to be online when a third date popped up for Bruce Springsteen at Manchester Co-op Arena. Very rare that he plays smaller venues in the UK, so when the first two dates went on sale earlier there was carnage. I've managed to get seats behind the stage which should be good. It's also good that he will play small intimate venues, though that's probably down to him not playing to the normal music industry rules as they are. I didn't realize until just the other day that he produced the debut album for my friend David Poe. Then on Thursday, I'll be working for American Authors.
