Not sure if this link will work as it's from Facebook, but Daevid Allen of Gong has been given six months to live

https://www.facebook.com/jack.smiley/posts/10153141189809047?fref=nf

Daevid Allen's youngest son has announced on FB that Daevid died this morning.

The Guardian has the UK obit...

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/mar/13/gong-founder-daevid-allen-has-died-aged-77

Amongst the tributes is this from music journalist veteran Everett True:

In some respects, Allen invented punk rock. Too extravagant a claim? Do the maths. Without Soft Machine, there’d have been no Pink Floyd, at least the version that evolved after Syd Barrett left. And without Pink Floyd, nothing for the punks to kick against.

Which is bollocks, frankly.

Nah, it's utter bollocks.

Sorry to report that Camel keyboardist Guy LeBlanc has died after a battle with cancer. The 54-year-old was forced to sit out the band's tour dates last year after being diagnosed with kidney cancer which later spread to his bones.

When I wrote this dude down as a potential 2015 pick I thought he was the keyboardist in Cameo, not Camel.

Cluster: Sowiesoso

Wow, the second big Krautrock death this year. And again, not someone who was just there, but a major figure. RIP...

Edit: Fun fact, Dieter Moebius has an english Wikipedia page, but not a german one. Krautrock was always loved more by the international music scene than at home, with the exception of, maybe, La Düsseldorf. There's almost no overlap between the group of german pop stars famous at home and those famous abroad. Or does any english person know Helene Fischer?

Martin Beard, bassist with Sopwith Camel.

Who could forget their seminal album The Miraculous Hump Returns From The Moon?

Pretty obscure little band right there...

That comment didn't rip them from the talons of obscurity, I fear.

You need to get out a bit more SC, perhaps to your local record store.

I'd have had to get out more about 1971, aft r the band's second breakup after two whole albums of non-obscurity. I'd have been 8.

BTW Phantom how you doing with your search to help me locate a copy of Big White Stairs EP 'No.2' ?

The audiophile in me says vinyl but it's a practical matter these days and I'm only hoping to land the CD if it ever appears on Discogs or otherwise

One for our US contingent. Reported here is the death of Jerry Corbetta, frontman of the psych rock band Sugarloaf, who had a couple of hits in the 1970s. He apparently died of Pick's Disease and passed away in hospice care aged 68. http://www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm This news won't stay forever here so if I find a proper news report, I'll post a link.

Edit: Reported here: http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2016/09/passings-jerry-corbetta-lead-singer-of.html

Of more interest to UK members is that he performed as part of Disco Tex and The Sex-O-Lettes on their late 1974 UK #8 hit, Get Dancin'.

I'm reporting Greg Lake's death (King Crimson; ELP) where it belongs. And will continue to do so ad infinitum.

Huge RIP to a fantastic voice and prof rocker extraordinaire. Carl Palmer is all that's left of ELP but the destruction that is 2016 isn't over. Could they all go inthe same calendar year??

This thread is supposed to be about people of acid rock. Do you even realize that NONE of the names on the original poll are actually progressive rock artists???!!!

Jesus, I hadn't heard this until I saw it on Wikipedia.

This has been a bad day for me. First John Glenn, now Greg Lake.

Tell me about it

So, wtihout boring you too much - I spend most of one year compiling the opening radio show for the new on and that show is our "List of the Lost" wherein we feature those who died the previous year.

Let's just say the revisions on the running order as we put the script together have been taxing and we've already negotiated a longer show than is usually scheduled.

Next prob - is ELP a fitting tribute to E and L or do we throw in Greg in his King Crimson pomp instead (which I'm up for doing by way of playing Cadence and Cascade)
