This article explains it in much more detail:

https://www.eastlothiancourier.com/news/24597923.former-scotland-rugby-cap-ken-macaulay-cycle-challenge/

In short, played for a Scotland XV versus a French Select team in 1980. It wasn't recognised as a cap at the time, but earlier this year he was awarded a retrospective cap as presumably World or Scottish rugby recognised it as a cap-winning game.

Yeah he said the retrospective cap this year made him think he needed to be more active with charity runs despite "not being a spring chicken" or very active for his age.

Which seems like a bit of an error in hindsight!

While that's not a terrible idea, he probably should have checked with his doctors to make sure something like this wouldn't have happened... Me thinks he didn't.

Third BBC article about somebody with cancer today. Darren Gleeson, Irish championship winning hurler:

Edit: I assumed Irish rugby/hurling can go here, too. Hope it's not too wrong.

Australian rugby player Peter Langmack dies at 73 because of, of course, dementia:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nrl/article-14159541/Record-setting-former-Panthers-Eels-rugby-league-star-Peter-Langmack-died.html

I think I even had him in my longlist, next to 100s of other dementia sportspeople.

I did and I do.

Having lived under both regimes, it annoys me when they are not separated.
