I’m not so sure on that part. Suspect that it’ll be a while before Mugabe would end his reign. Nevertheless, they were definitely trying to send a message to Mugabe that they’re capable of taking him out if necessary...

Thatcher 2,406 Posted November 15, 2017 The coup is complete - Mugabe has been detained and it seems is no longer in power. Former Vice President (who Mugabe sacked), Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to serve as interim President.

msc 18,439 Posted November 15, 2017 Blimey, even the most resilient of strongmen's power can erode in seconds when old and frail, apparently. I suppose after how quickly Gadaffi fell, this shouldn't surprise.

Deathray 2,940 Posted November 15, 2017 Honestly never thought Mugabe would be toppled until he keeled over. My "armchair analyst" theory is that Mugabe is no longer capable of running the country, is ill and has engineered the coup to ensure Zanu-PF remain in power after he dies - given the rumours about Emmanuel Mnangawa standing for President.
