Think I saw somewhere that Slade make half a million pounds in royalties every year from their Christmas song. Wonder if Ladbaby can afford to heat their house this year, never mind heat up a sausage roll, as they gave away all their royalties to charity.

Aye, Noddy Holder said he thought the song was rubbish and cheesy until he saw his royalties and then he thought it was amazing! Ladbabys Boris's mate so probably. Jim Lea - who co-wrote Merry Xmas Everybody - with Noddy famously said it was "not so much a song, more a pension plan"
dimreaper 697 Posted December 6, 2022 Shane McGowan's birthday incidentally happens to be on Christmas. Wonder if he'll be a party pooper this year.

Lafaucheuse 4,046 Posted December 6, 2022 Just thought that if his wife decided to make his new hospitalization public it’s probably that it’s more serious than the other times where it remained private (implied by the use of again)

Youth in Asia 1,086 Posted December 8, 2022 They probably gave everything to charity (after deduction of expenses, salaries, etc etc). The charity is probably like "Ok so where's the rest?"
arghton 6,715 Posted December 11, 2022 According to this, it's viral encephalitis. “The hospital explained to me that shingles can go into your brain and that’s what happened to Shane so now they want to keep him in on a drip for two weeks,” Victoria said. MacGowan was “confused” beginning his treatment but is “lucid” this weekend and will be home in time to celebrate his birthday. “He seems perfectly normal now — he is pissed off because he can’t have a drink in the hospital,” Victoria said.

So, more revealing possibly than you'd think. If his alcoholic intake/alcoholism is up there with the legend then denying him a drink would be a shock to his system that could complicate the current situation. If the biggest problem is that he's "pissed off" at his inability to go on the piss then we're closer to Keith Richards territory than most of us thought - which might explain his longevity and make him less a dead pooling shout than a few of us have been thinking. His missus, btw, might not be the most reliable witness here. She coped with an earlier break with him by encountering guardian angels who directed her life and helped her get back with him, she wrote a book about it - if anyone of us can be bothered to read it!
