May have suffered life changing injuries it seems.

Graham Lee and Henrietta Knight pictured today. Not sure what Graham Lee's long term prognosis is but he appears to be out of mortal danger at least.

An award-winning apprentice jockey remains in an induced coma in hospital a day after a horror fall.

Chelsey Reynolds, 28, was completing trackwork on a private property on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia when she fell off her horse.

Verry Elleegant  The 2021 Melbourne Cup winner has died aged 8 after complications from foaling. Obit

It was very sporting of connections to give her a go in Europe, admittedly at the twilight of her career. A sad loss. Her Melbourne Cup win was really impressive, even if the European contingent was severely limited that year (I can't recall whether due to covid, or Racing Victoria's onerous and silly veterinary checks).

I meant to post this several weeks ago, but forgot. Pat Murphy has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer. He trains in Lambourn, doesn't have a battalion of runners but is a Welsh National winning trainer as the article notes (just as well, as he would have been a possible Pointless answer for even the most diehard racing anorak). Will obit in the Post anyhow. He turned 66 this week.

I don't know him, but he sounds like a top bloke from that interview. Hope he does well.

That is a very sore point in my neck of the downs.

Quinn Kesler, a three-time qualifier for the (U.S.) National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, has died. He was 30. It's believed an accident of some kind was to blame.

Photo of Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockeys from earlier today. There's a few a few old timers I don't recognise. Francome and Jonjo O'Neill are on it but hopefully they are both ok for a while. Any idea who some of the older ones on the right hand side are?

A bit of detective work shows that the guy second from the right (standing next to Sam Waley-Cohen) is Ron Barry who won the race in 1973 on The Dikler and the guy next to him in the purple tie is Frank Berry who won in 1972 on Glencaraig Lady.  Ron Barry is now well into his 80s. Not sure who the guy between him and Berry is.

I believe that is Richard Hoare who 'won' on Master Smudge in 1980.

Are you sure it’s not Stan Hayhurst, who won in 1958? He was interviewed on the BBC and looks similar, but then all old people look virtually identical don’t they.

Walter Blum was born in Brooklyn, New York and died at the age of 89. Despite being blind in his right eye since the age of two, when he fell from a toy horse, in 1953 he embarked on a career as a jockey, riding his first winner on July 29 at Saratoga Race Course. For most of his 22-year career, Blum has raced primarily at East Coast tracks, from New England to Florida, and is one of only four jockeys to win six races on a single card at Monmouth Park.

However, in the 1960s he raced seasonally at California tracks, notably winning the 1966 Santa Anita Derby, and also dominated the Chicago summer racing circuit at Arlington Park, winning more races in 1963 and 1964 than any another American jockey, was a member of the United States Racing Hall of Fame

Stefano Cherchi succumbed to his injuries. Most known for his association with the Marco Botti and Amy Murphy stables in Britain and he appeared to have a promising future. In the race immediately prior to his fall he'd won on a 60-1 shot which shows how cruel this great sport can be.
