Bishop Howard Hesseman?

He may have been a deejay and a teacher, but he was no Bishop. (The point being I was looking through tweets, saw Howard Hesseman, then saw his death was already mentioned in the Deathlist, so I moved on to another name...this Bishop who apparently isn't a Bishop, and posted his obit instead.)

Assembly of Experts member since 1983, longtime parliament member in Iran. First Ayatollah/Maraji to die since September, but there are quite many above 90:

1. Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani (20 Feb 1919-31 Jan 2022) Secretary of the Guardian Council 1980-1985, once issued a fatwa calling for the death of a rapper.

2. Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Hossein Wahid Khorasani (1 Jan 1921-) "Most learned Shia authority alive" and critic of Khamenei.

3. Shamsodin Mujtahidi Najafi (17 April 1923-)

4. Grand Ayatollah Hossein Noori-Hamedani (1925-) Hardliner and a total piece of shit.

5. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad-Sadiq Husayni Rohani (16 July 1926-)

6. Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati (23 Feb 1927-) Conservative, one of the top politicians in Iran. Chairman of the Assembly of Experts and Secretary of the Guardian Council.

7. Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi (25 Feb 1927-) Holocaust denialist, member of the assembly of experts in 1979

8. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mousa Shubairi Zanjani (2 March 1928-)

9. Grand Ayatollah Abbas Mahfouzi (1928-)

10. Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Rahmati Sirjani (1928-)

11. Ayatollah Seyed Ali Akbar Ghoreishi (1928-) Assembly of Experts member since 1983

12. Grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani (8 April 1929-) Founder of Imam Sadiq Institute in Qom

13. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Sistani (4 Aug 1930-) Called the "Leading spiritual leader of Iraqi Shia muslims" and the "electronic Grand Ayatollah", one of the rare liberal Ayatollahs.

14. Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Is'haq al-Fayadh (1930-) Also a liberal Ayatollah.

15. Muhammad Taqi Majlesi Isfahani (1930-)

16. Mohammed Emami-Kashani (3 Oct 1931-) Assembly of Experts member since 1983

17. Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi-Kermani (1931-) Tehran's Ephemeral Friday Prayer Imam since 2012 succeeding Ali Khamenei.

Updated for the death of Golpy. Khorasani is now the oldest living Marja/Ayatollah.

Khorasani, "most learned Shia authority" is pretty frail but probably invincible. Shamsodin is a random guy with no English wikipedia page. Same for Taqi Isfahani.

Noori-Hamedani is a "dangerous" old asshole, recently condoled the death of Golpaygani calling him the "Supreme being of God"

Jannati is getting frailer and left one of his positions a couple of months ago.

Abbas Mahfouzi had a serious mystery illness (not mentioned anywhere) and surgery in 2016 but recovered.

Mohammad Rahmati Sirjani had a serious mystery illness a year ago and spent time in coma.

Is'haq al-Fayadh was hospitalised with covid a year ago but has recovered.

Movahedi-Kermani was already wheelchairbound three years ago.

A former priest who was named in the state’s grand jury report on clergy sexual abuse and charged with recording a young boy in a Target bathroom has died. The Diocese of Pittsburgh said they were informed of 77-year-old Paul Spisak’s death Monday. The medical examiner said he died Sunday but did not list a cause of death.

I believe he was also the last to attend all of the sessions.

Double checked - definitely the last council father present at all four sessions. His death leaves eight remaining and only one living bishop appointed by Pope John XXIII.

There have been two notable buddhist monk deaths during the last days but Thích Nhất Hạnh (now dead) and influential Zen Buddhist monk Thích Thanh Từ are still somehow alive.

How long will these two (especially Thich Nhat Hanh who has been dying for years) keep circling the drain? Forever? Both wheelchair-bound, almost unable to move at all and atleast Nhat Hanh can't even talk (not sure if Tu can).

Recent picture of Thích Thanh Từ (Feb 1, source) looks okay, interesting wheelchair choice.

The head of ISIS just blew himself up. Presumably he is some kind of cleric to get to that position.

Khorasani dead on English Wiki. No news results in English.

I’m out and about at the moment, can someone

else do some searching under his Arabic, Persian names etc?

EDIT: IP address who added it looks dodgy. Possible hoax.

IP is from UK, so most likely came out of this site.

Khorasani (sadly) alive and well. Also appeared in public a week ago.

Ilia II of Georgia (b. 1933) Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

He's been the patriarch since 1977(!!!), there's been battle about who gets to succeed him for years and he's been ultrafrail for ages, suffering from a heart disease for more than 12 years and parkinson's for atleast 8 years. Someone tried to kill him with a strong poison 5 years ago but he survived it, came out of ICU slightly frailer. Hospitalisations in 2008 (heart treatment in Germany), 2009 (fever), 2014 (spine and heart treatment in Germany, twice), 2017 (poisoning, gallbladder surgery) and 2019 (weakness, unable to do a speech)

It works fine on my Safari, however it's not a news link.

It's an auto generated "news" article/bot that's scraped info from Twitter, so your browser has likely identified it's spam and blacklisted it.

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill sells his soul to the devil and backs Putin's invasion of Ukraine:angry:

Meanwhile, in Kiev, the 93 year old Patriarch Filaret of the breakaway Ukrainian Orthodox church soldiers on.  He survived covid last year, but his secessionist tendencies have annoyed Putin, so a sudden demolition of the cathedral while he is inside can't be ruled out.

James Moriarty, the auxiliary Bishop of Dublin from 1991 to 2002 and the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin from 2002 to 2010, has died. He was 85. His death has been recorded at the Catholic Hierarchy website. (From this, we can deduce his passing is certain. It's elementary, my dear Watson.)

Jesuit Father Drew Christiansen, a professor at Georgetown University and formerly head of the U.S. bishops’ Office of International Justice and Peace, died early April 6 in Washington. He was 77.

Father Christiansen had been battling recent health issues, but no cause of death was released. The year 2022 marked his 50th year as a priest, and his 60th year as a Jesuit.
