Lionel Platts, member of the Ryder Cup team in 1965 has died - https://www.pga.info/news/lionel-platts-1934-2021/

He was 86 years of age.

When my eyes scanned this obit I thought it said Putts - which would have been a great golf name.

BTW he was an HONOURARY member of the Ryder Cup, a necessary distinction.

Professional golfer Gene Siller was shot and killed on Saturday while at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia, according to local reports and the Georgia State Golfing Association.

Siller was reportedly responding to an issue on the course's 10th hole when a man in a white truck pulled his vehicle onto a sand trap nearby, according to the Post. When Siller went to talk with the man in the vehicle, he was shot and later died.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

The fool went to sort out a bunker un-armed? Madness.

They are all well-renowned golf course designers, so they all deserve a mention. While it smells of nepotism, it's a look back at a time when your kids could follow you into the family business. Ah, the days when you could have a career in something.

There will be Dye Another Day I'm sure....;)

Bruce Fleisher, a prolific golfer who won once on the PGA tour during a long career, but had greater success on what is now the Champions Tour, has died. He was 72. Fleisher won 18 times on the latter.

Alberto Olguin, a caddie for PGA Tour Latinoamerica player Manuel Torres, collapsed and died during a tournament. He is the second caddie to pass away in that way this year. Jose Edgar Preciado died four months ago in his hotel room, during a tournament.

Amazed that that other voice of golf, Renton Laidlaw, has never seemingly been mentioned on the Forum and doesn't even have a Wiki page.

I'm assuming he's still alive though.

Alive and well aged 81 it seems. Retired in 2014. Made appearances in 2018 and 2019 and there's some videos of him on YouTube.

Sad news about Alliss. He was on my long list as well as being a former DL pick. He taught Sean Connery to play golf for the scenes in Goldfinger!

Well, the saddest of news, especially for those of us who were going to pick him next year - Renton Laidlaw has died aged 82: https://www.golfaustralia.com.au/news/one-of-golfs-great-voices-renton-laidlaw-dies-aged-82-571183

Edit: The COVID, contributing to his poor health.

RIP, good sir. Allis and Laidlaw were a great team back in the day and now they are both dead.

American Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker fell seriously ill after the competition.  Sounds like he was at death's door and still has a long recovery period ahead of him.  It also doesn't seem like they've been able to find the culprit and actually diagnose him.

Near the beginning of today's CBS coverage of the Phoenix Open Jim Nantz gave an update on Tom Weiskopf, saying that he was doing great with his treatment and, in fact, there is "no sign of cancer".  So, take that for what it's worth.  Believe Harry Reid and Shintaro Ishihara both had the same update at one point.
