Enrique Pinder, a WBA world bantamweight champion for a six month period in the early 1970s, has died. He was 76.  Pinder defeated Rafael Herrera on July 29th 1972 for the title. He dropped it to Romeo Anaya on January 30th, 1973.

He is the champion of a more recent edition of the WBC bantamweight category to die (72-73), before the champion of a more recent season to die in that category was the Mexican Chucho Castillo, who died in 2013 and champion between 70-71

Steffen Tangstad, former European heavyweight champion who also competed for world belts, dead at 65. Beat Joe Bugner, drew with Buster Douglas, lost to Michael Spinks. Went on to appear on Norway's version of Strictly, and a lack of Norwegians around these parts might explain why nobody had mentioned him despite the dreaded "amputations related to long-running health conditions" a few years ago.

Wiki only mentions the one leg? Then said he couldn't use his hands or feet anyway...

Checking the archives and I don't think anyone has mentioned that "The Ragamuffin Man" Lloyd Honeyghan has suffered from severely bad health in recent years, to the point he was in intensive care in 2020 and in 2022 it was announced he was "housebound and being cared for 24/7". Feels like a possible DL pick in the lower 40s in a quieter year.

Frank Bruno hospitalised and seemingly suffering from neurological illness.

Not in immediate danger, but a likely start of the decline.

Sounds like he has those tests as an outpatient and is not currently or recently been in hospital as inpatient.

Brazilian heavyweight Adilson Rodrigues, an icon in his own country, dead from pugilistic dementia aged 66. Made it to the top of some US cards in the late 80s/early 90s, where fights with the likes of Evander Holyfield and George Foreman undoubtedly aided that condition.

58-year-old Mike Tyson's diction isn't what it was. He's due to get punched hard in the head again tomorrow.

This is an exhibition fight, The two of them are fighting for the money and not particularly anything else, so I don't think Logan Paul is going to go out there with the intent of putting a massive beatdown on Mike Tyson that could cause him great injury. There's no incentive to do so, especially with the huge age difference between them.

Aye well, the pre-match furore includes some predictable stuff about Tyson being vulnerable. Exhibition or not, we're dead poolers and a fighter way older than most and already - possibly - showing signs of speech and cognitive impairment will get in the ring at which point two guys who think they have something to prove will each try and inflict such damage on the other that his ability to perform basic motor functions is compromised to the point the referee deems him unfit to continue. Y'know, boxing!
