Balbir out of ICU and expected to make a full recover. Immortal fucker.

Wonderful, a new person we can all love to hate.

(Edit: Of course, hate is a bit much. More some kind of grudging respect. Like SriSriSri )

There was a Karunanidhi/Tiwari-shaped hole in our hearts that needed to be filled.

Balbir has been hospitalized for 90 days, 45 spent in ICU. Currently he needs continuous assistance by machine to breathe and there are no plans for him to be discharged. He celebrated his 95th birthday (Wiki date is wrong) on December 31, but no photos of him are shown.

Wish my father could last as long as he did.

Balbir about to be discharged. India's life expectancy is under 70 and then you get these guys who are fucking immortal. A common person in his conditions would have probably been left dying or surely not so cared about; that's what pisses me off.

Antal Bolvari, a two-time Olympic water polo champion who scored a goal in Hungary's famous 4-0 win over the Soviet Union in the "Blood in the Water" match at the 1956 Melbourne Games, has died. He was 86.  Bolvari, who won gold at both the 1952 and 1956 Olympics, died Tuesday in the hospital after a long, undisclosed illness.

The Olympic semifinal match against the Soviet Union, just weeks after the Soviets crushed the 1956 Hungarian uprising, turned violent and became known as the "Blood in the Water" match after Hungarian player Ervin Zador bled profusely from cuts around his right eye after being punched by an opponent.  Hungary went on to defeat Yugoslavia 2-1 in the final.

Watching these fuckers one should really get angry if he does not get to 253 at least. India: the nation in which they will let thousands of kids die in the street and spend billions to cure Balbir and the Siddaganga guy.

Lucjan Trela, who competed for Poland in boxing at the 1968 Summer Olympics, has died.  He was 76.  Trela competed in the heavyweight division and would lose in the round of 16 to the man who'd eventually win the gold medal, George Foreman.

Hmm.  No oxygen lines, damn good sign for someone recovering from pneumonia and cardiac issues. No swelling in the hands either ( remember SriSri?). With the nutrition from that NG tube, he could go a long time yet.

You can tell by his face that he is suffering. Just let nature take its course all this is doing delaying the inevitable and taking diginity away from Balbir.

Posting here though he was a solid football player at UT.  A name I had forgotten.

Johnny Lam Jones, one of the most celebrated athletes in University of Texas history as both a football and a track star, died Friday morning after a decades-long fight with myeloma cancer. He was 60.

He was known more for his track exploits as an Olympic gold medalist on the U.S. mile relay team in 1976 at age 18 and a world-class sprinter who once won four events at a Southwest Conference meet. But he also played tailback and wide receiver for the Longhorn football team and was later selected by the New York Jets as the No. 2 player taken in the first round although he only had marginal success as a pro.
