I'll open up this thread by saying that it's a very good pick - his health has been declining for some years & no longer will I be able to choose him as an unique pick, like I did in 2006. He surely can't keep going on much longer.

I agree, he's on my DDP list. It can't be long now. I'm sure he's only hanging on in an effort to outlive Thatcher but it's looking unlikely.

There seems to be quite a lot of us got him on their DDP list. (Myself included)

I'll raise a glass of Pimms to that news.

Looks like it could be a fair trickle of deaths this year to around a dozen or so, so this death is timely and expected...

Francis Pym is the third success of 2008.

He is the 163rd hit since 1987.

The 2008 list is now in 17th place shared with 1989 and 1990 out of a possible 22 lists.

That's all for now...

Congrats to DL for keeping up the at-least-one-hit-per-month trend and especially to OoO who is not only off the mark on the DDP, but also gets a CPDP hit when I update (hopefully tomorrow)!

Woohoo! Parteeee! :P

Umm.. bringing a little more respect to the news, I am hardly surprised, for, as I might have mentioned before, I worked for the NHS in Bedfordshire in 2003-2004. Pym was receiving regular medical treatment for dementia-type symptons then, so it was obvious he was only going one way, as it were.

There were only two famous people receiving major treatment in Beds at that time - one was Bob Monkhouse, who died whilst I was there (the two ARE un-related  ) & the 2nd was Pym.

Time to get a job with the NHS in London me thinks....

P.S. Pym's cabinet colleague Lord Carrington lives near where I live now. The last I heard (January) he was still doing pretty okay for his age.

We're doing considerably better this year than we were this time last year. Last year was fairly unexciting on the whole, apart from the summer which had a load of hits.

If you said to me, it would be him,

I'd never have guessed old Francis Pym!

Glad that I put Pym on my list for this year.

Finally I'm giving my father-in-law a run for his money on this year's dead pool

The demented politico Pym

Toddled along to the gym

Thatcher said "you're not one of us"

and pushed him under a bus

The result was particur'ly grim

Well it looks like he only just beat Thatcher as she's been rushed into hospital and seems all set to do a Suharto.

I'm surprised she isn't on this years list as she now seems a dead (pardon the pun) cert to be next to shrug off this mortal coil.

I don't get it. ;)

I haven't put too much thought into it.

Why is his 'headline' It's Pyms o'clock?

For those (like me) who have never heard of the drink Pimms. It is a gin based drink popular in Southern England. Because of reduced demand other versions of Pimms were discontinued in the 1970s.
