Obit for Berg as confirmation.

Paul Berg, who was NOT picked in the DDP in this year, would have been a hit as he got a Telegraph obit.

C'est la vie.

At least Yang Chen-Ning is a unique pick this year!

The conversation about the lack of obits for Nobel Prize winners lately, and the lack of Berg on the DDP, are interlinked of course.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

They just say he needs round the clock care which is not uncommon for a 100 year old. Don't think his demise is imminent.

I am shocked that there was a QO for Paul Berg (died 15th February).  I didn't see this one (thanks @Ulitzer95!) but he got many others:

New York Times 21st February - the standard for Nobel laureates, especially if American

LA Times 22nd February

Washington Post 18th February

and from various scientific associations:

Royal Society of Chemistry 22nd February

American Chemical Society 22nd February

Given his accomplishments, it is heartening to see this many recognizing his work.  What usually happens is that their former university acknowledges them (as Stanford did) and the Nobel Prize Foundation confirms.

Having been to Asilomar Beach (the namesake of the conferences he founded) and been in the field of synthetic biology, it is without a doubt that his work does make him the godfather of genetic engineering.

Yang Zhenning makes public appearance on video, denies he is ill.

Yes, he is responsible for "microfoundations", meaning according to him, every macroeconomic model needs to built in such a way that every variable is perfectly explained through basic microeconomic axioms. It's basically the origin of "the government should be run like a household". A terrible ideologist.

If he's dead, was last picked on the DDP in 2015.

I saw this and decided a four post Twitter account set up in May was probably one of those hoax thingies.

I remain of that opinion until told otherwise.

Some user states he talked with his daughter and that he is perfectly fine. Seems like a hoax to me, the only source is that tweet from a fake account of the new Nobel Prize winner Claudia Goldin.

edit : her 3rd tweet on the platform, no reason to believe her
