I always assumed Rampling was part/naturalized French considering her career in here

Very sad that Charlotte Rampling, Brenda Blethyn and Julie Christie are not dames

Leslie Manville could be a future name, with Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter I guess

Far from being made a dame Charlotte Rampling should be punished for being part of the original final series of Dexter and ruining what should’ve been a perfect end….!

She didn't die in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? Am I wrong?

I nearly checked that before I posted and didn't. Maybe I'm misremembering...wasn't there a storyline of her having some tests in hospital in secret away from the rest of the gang? Maybe she was worried she was dying and it turned out to be benign? It's a while since I saw it - I remember Tom Wilkinson keeling over in the first one, assumed there must have been a death in the second one too.

What’s the closest equivalent for USA actresses? Being awarded the Presidential medal of freedom? (Or is that more like being made a Companion of Honour). Kennedy Centre honours?

Petula Clark and Prunella Scales have CBE’s but might be too old to be promoted now.

It’s quite surprising Petula has never become a dame. I hope it can happen, if only so we might see her out and about again - she’s gone quiet.

Forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go Downton

You'll be a DBE, never a mystery, Downton

Things will be great when you're Downton

Just don't make the mistake - Downtown

Or summat. You ought to be able to do better than that.

Another possible Dame contender is Kate Winslet who has been a CBE since 2012.

No, quite, she's not even 50 49 until Saturday. I know there's no real age bar, but it does seem to have a bearing.

At the moment probably too young but then again Judi Dench was 53 when she made a dame and Maggie Smith and Diana Rigg 55 so she is not far of their ages.

Re-posting here something I posted about dames in the Glynis Johns thread a few months ago…

I think the issue with acting Dames is that they tend to award those in British theatre early - Kristin Scott Thomas for example - then they wait a little longer for the ones high in British cinema - eg Julie Walters - and then the ones who make their career in the US rather than the U.K. tend to have to wait til they’re super old or not at all - see Angela Lansbury and Olivia de Havilland.

Seems to me that the damehood can depend on the amount of impact you have on U.K. rather than international cinema/TV.

Obviously the rare exception such as Julie Andrews or Elizabeth Taylor but it’s much rarer for an ‘international’ British star to get a damehood early.

Great call! She probably only has another 40-50 years left in her.

TOC means for receiving a damehood, not for dying!

Looking at her career trajectory over the last few years, I can see a Dame Olivia Coleman being made in the next 10-20 years or so.

Supposedly last photo of Maggie at a restaurant a week before her death. Looked pretty good, it must have been sudden then as could be suspected by the fact she died at the hospital

She could have had some major underlying condition and a quick decline.

How about Alison Steadman for a damehood?

To bring it slightly back on topic, I see her stage debut was in 'The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie'.

Just saw Olivia Colman is only one year older than Kate Winslet, I thought she was more older, god? I guess they, Olivia Williams and Sally Hawkins are really good candidates

I would say Keira Knightley OBE too, she is adorable I love her, but still young

Other young names that still have to wait: Carey Mulligan, Emma Watson, Gema Arterton, Emilia Clarke, Felicity Jones and Vannesa Kirby

Not pretty sure for a damehood, they live in USA: Emily Blunt, Rachel Weisz, Emily Mortimer and Naomi Watts.

Rosamund Pike lives in Prague, Czechia so ???

I'm not adding Saoirse Ronan and Elizabeth Debicki (even though they are magnificent)
