VSBfromH 74 Posted November 11, 2010 Jim Farry The former head of the SFA (Scottish Football Association) has died of a heart attack aged 56 (or possibly 55, depending on which bit of the same article you believe). I recall hearing his name quite frequently in the football press as Scottish football lurched from one crisis to another. He was eventually ignominiously sacked for gross misconduct for allegedly deliberately delaying the registration of Jorge Cadete and preventing him from playing for Celtic. VSBfromH 74 Posted December 1, 2010 D W Smith Former football referee David "D W" Smith has died aged 84. He refereed a few notable games, including the centenary 1971-72 FA Cup Final between Leeds United and Arsenal and the 1974 Manchester Derby. The latter was his last match at the top level, and famous for Denis Law putting City 1-0 up (and refusing to celebrate) prompting United fans to invade the pitch in an attempt to get the game abandoned. Smith did eventually abandon the game with 8 minutes remaining following a further invasion, but only once he had heard that United were going down regardless of the outcome. The 1-0 result was eventually allowed to stand.
