Spade_Cooley 9,527 Posted May 25, 2019 One from last week that went under the radar: Manfred Burgsmüller, a German striker of the 70s and 80s. He was Bundesliga top scorer in the the 79/80 season and also won three caps for the national side. Of additional interest is he became an American football kicker after retirement, and is believed to be the oldest professional amfo player in history - he was 52 when he last turned out for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe. Really sad news, remember him at Spurs more than his time as a manager. 49 is no age to die always shocking when someone so young and an athlete dies. Sky Sports saying he died of a heart attack. Arsewipe 202 Posted June 9, 2019 And the answer if anyone cares is 1980. All the players from the 1979 final are still with us apart from one unused sub. 1982 is the oldest final where every single player in the squads and managers are still alive.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted June 19, 2019 Tributes have poured in for a non-league football stalwart who passed away last night at the age of 58 from bile duct and pancreatic cancer. Steve Essex, who was known as ‘Esso’, played at centre-back for Hednesford Town, Stafford Rangers, Rushall Olympic and Wolverhampton United. He was part of the famous Hednesford side that reached the fourth round of the FA Cup in the 1996/97 season. A tribute issued by the club read: “All at Hednesford Town Football Club are saddened to hear of the passing of former centre-half Steve Essex at the age of just 58. “Steve, or as he was better known among the Pitman faithful ‘Esso’, arrived at the Cross Keys in the early 1990s and would be influential in the clubs rise into the Football Conference – scoring one of the goals in the 3-0 title clinching victory against Leek Town in April 1995. A MASSIVE HIT for Miss Boudicca in DL Cup play. SC
