This won’t make any ripples in the media, but this guy was a bit of a legend in Midlands non-league football and I saw him play countless times for my team. A tragedy for the bloke and the family as he is a modest, intelligent chap and hasn’t got long left.

Steve, obviously

Nah, I'll say his name here so he's easy to search up: Steve Essex. Diagnosed with pancreatic and bile duct cancer last year.

I remember him.  Cut my live football teeth watching Rushall from the 70s into early 80s.

Billy McNeill deid aged 79.

9 Scottish titles, 7 Scottish Cups, 6 Scottish League Cups and, most famously, 1 European Cup in 1967.

Scottish football has lost a proper iconic figure today.

Lindsay Parsons, who made over 350 appearances for Bristol Rovers in the 1960's and 70's and then followed ex-team mate Tony Puiis around as part of his backroom team, dead at 73.

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/tony-pulis-lindsay-parsons-bristol-2760174

The tough-tackling Bristolian enjoyed two outstanding careers in the game, first on the pitch as he made 360 league appearances for the Gas, and then as assistant and chief scout with Pulis over 28 years on a journey from Gillingham at the bottom of the Football League all the way to Stoke in the top-flight.

Their professional relationship was underpinned by a close friendship that was first fostered when Pulis arrived at Rovers as a teenager in the early 70s with Parsons an established and influential first-team player.

"I met him in '73 when I joined Rovers, we just seemed to get on very well together," Pulis told Bristol Live. "He was very much is own man but we were just good mates.

"Lindsay just set such high standards, on and off the pitch, he was just a really, really good man. He's a throwback, they'd call him a dinosaur today in terms of his values. He expected you to be honest, hard working, respectful. He wanted players who played for the team.

Another tragedy in a season blighted by them across Europe, Alanyaspor midfielder and 20-cap Czech international, Josef Sural (28) killed when a minibus he was travelling in with 5 other teammates crashed on it's way back from an away game in the Turkish top flight.

Former Liverpool, Swansea, Cardiff and Dundee defender Steven Caulker [who scored in the match] and the former Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse were also in the minibus but were fortunate to escape with injuries.

Maybe now we are down to a manageable number, we should have a Bhoys of '67 thread.

My money's on Bertie Auld outliving the others. (I'm probably losing that money, ha!)

Speculation in the press and on the Huddersfield forum today that Dean Hoyle is trying to sell the club.

Which he has now done, noting his "recent ill health" as one of the main reasons behind it. Not even remaining as honorary chairman or chairman-for-life or some such bullshit title.

Utter psycho who spent his final years clogging his way around the bottom tier and below. There's an interesting section of Gary Nelson's second volume of autobiography in which Nelson discusses his time as Torquay manager and the challenge of managing the unmanageable Gittens. Oddly, it's sometimes the unmanageable ones - like Cloughie - who make the best coaches

Yep, he played in a dire Exeter side towards the end of his career and once got into an altercation with a linesman, threatening to tear off the happless assistant's ear during a dispute about an offside decision.  I kind of admired his passion, given we were three nil down at the time. :rip:
