Leonid Stadnyk (And Other Tall People)

Pornchai Sawsri, who claimed to be the tallest man in the world, has died at the age of 26. His reputed height of 2.69m was unverified by the Guinness Book of Records.

What's 2.69m in real (old fashioned) money?

8 feet and 8.25459 inches.

Unverified?!? He's dead, bust out a tape measure and get to it. He won't complain.

Sorry, but I think your maths are a bit out.

25.4mm per inch.

That gives you 105.905511811 inches.

96 inches are the basic 8 foot measurement.

The 9.905511811 inches left over is much closer to 10 inches.

By the looks of it I make it closest to 9 and 29/32nds inches.

I'm going to ignore the + or - 5mm tolerance stack without further information as to what time of the day he was measured at when the distance of 2.69m was taken.

So really, he was said to have been 8 foot, 10 inches tall.

"Also a huge Boro fan"

For once, this expression is accurate.

You know, having seen the death of Neil Fingleton, I've noticed that most people who are notably very tall (like over 7 ft 4 inches) tend to live rather short (excuse the pun) lives. Maybe I should have more than just Sultan Kosen on my list next year?

Well Paul Sturgess ( who is now Britain's tallest man) is virtually the same height as Neil was . He is 29 years old maybe one to keep an eye on. Then again Chris greener lived until he was 72 and he was 7 foot 6.

Was thinking Bao Xishun might go soon. Currently 65/66 (exact date of birth unknown) and 7'10. Unusual for someone his height to live so long.

I think the discrepancy comes from whether being very tall is caused by a disorder (gigantism or acromegaly  ) or purely genetics. There are some people who are over 7 foot and are in proportion . Those with those disorders their heart was built for a much smaller body , but those who are genetically tall then their heart was built for their frame. With Bao xishun it doesn't mention anything about any disorders so he may just be genetically that tall . Mongolians are usually tall people as are northern chinese.  I think sultan kosen could go before Bao he is using crutches already at 34 and his height is due to pituitary gland.

BTW According to Neil fingleton his dad was only 5.10  :D

Perhaps, perhaps. But I did search it up and yes, Bao Xishun was born with gignatism. And yeah I've Kosen on my deadpool and have had him there for 2 or 3 years now

His parents were 6'3 and 6'7 respectively. He doesn't have gigantism if I recall correctly.

Mike Lanier, who had a role in It Follows as Giant Man, died back in April aged 48: https://eu.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/oakland/2018/04/26/michigan-tallest-man-mike-lanier/554236002/

One half of the world's tallest identical twins. How is his brother Jim doing?

I saw the movie and I remember him. The ending sucked.

I'm suprised that Bao Xishun, former world's tallest person until Stadnyk and Sultan Kösen is still alive. 236cm/7ft 9inches, 70 on 2nd of November. Suffers from rheumatism but apparently in great health otherwise.

Afeez Agoro, popularly known as Nigeria’s tallest man has died.

[In a phone conversation with a female relative who did not want her name mentioned, it was confirmed to Daily Trust that the entertainer is dead. In an emotion-laden voice, when asked about Agoro, the lady simply said sobbing, “It is true. He is gone. He is dead. Please, I will call you back.” Then she hung up the phone.]

(Bwa-ha-ha I left that in bc it’s hilarious)

Agoro died at a Lagos hospital on Wednesday evening, after a prolonged battle with Acromegaly, commonly known as gigantism.

Afeez was previously recognised as the tallest man in Nigeria. At 2.25 metres (7 ft 5 in), he stood shorter than his 2.41 metres (7 ft 11 in) compatriot, Abiodun Adegoke, who is likely the tallest man in Nigeria.

In August 2018, I Am Agoro, a Reality TV show which centred around his life and what it feels like living as the tallest man in Nigeria

So wonderfully weird. Well done on all counts. Things to keep an eye out for on a rainy afternoon and there are no more books to read. Marvellous.
