The joker of my DDP C-team, Detroit Symphony Orchestra longtime CEO Anne Parsons has died:

Shooting for that yahoo obit, but the APnews article makes me think, a Daily Mail obit is also possible.

I would hope Gris Gris ruined your solo hit.  Well done gcreptile

Was about to say she hasn't had a QO yet, but no, yahoo is there now:

I meant Made In Detroit, not Gris Gris, and I had dropped her at the end so she’s a solo hit.  I would have given her a fair chance to QO abd so she has.

Boris Brott, the artistic director of the Orchestre classique de Montréal and one of Canada's best ever known conductors, has died. He was 78. Brott was the victim of a hit-and-run. (Brott was, at one time, a school mate of my father's.)

Any sign of Harrison Birtwistle dying soon?

I don't care if he's a minimalist or not.

I can't stand him or his music.

Harrison Birtwistle being reported dead:

Been on my long list for ages. Should have known...

I remember you mentioning him, thought you'd pick him this or last year?

He ended up being fourth reserve, absolutely highlighted for this year. Typical, he's gone and done a Des O'Connor on me.

Last picked for the DDP in 2008 I think!

He was picked as recently as 2014, but yes, LotM.

Ah harsh luck. My first sub for the Oldies side (Ralph Riach) has died which is even more annoying as allegedly one of the starting 20 died last year!

Radu Lupu, widely regarded as one of the world's greatest pianists, has died at the age of 76, the organisers of the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest announced.

According to media reports, Lupu died in Lausanne in Switzerland after a long illness.

Lupu won the George Enescu International Piano Competition in 1967, nine years after the prestigious festival was set up in honour of Romanian composer George Enescu.

Ryuichi Sakamoto has stage 4 cancer

Off to check whether he qualifies for my TOTP Theme Team next year. I've picked him previously.

Edit: He doesn't. And not for the rest of the 1980s. Listing him for main team, so he'll die mid-November this year on previous form.

Likely the most important living Italian pianist, Giovanni Allevi, diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Only 53. Don't think he will go anytime soon, but hard to think he will be alive in ten years.

British-born conductor Bramwell Tovey has died:

https://eu.providencejournal.com/story/news/local/2022/07/13/rhode-island-philharmonic-orchestra-conductor-bramwell-tovey-artistic-director-dead-ripo-cancer/10050317002/

Frequent pick in deadpools after his somewhat public cancer fight with sarcoma. Might have been on quite a few 2023 lists already.

Edit: Actually a miss for the DDP, strange. Maybe I'm confusing it with other pools (Death By Numbers?) His cancer was not that bad statistically, but a couple of months ago, there were bad news, or so I recall.

Allevi's sister has committed suicide.

Probably the most famous choral conductor in Britain not to have a Wiki page, Terry Edwards, the founder of London Voices (who have performed choral parts for the Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter franchises among many other movies), reported dead:

A 6ft 9in giant of man with a close relationship to Georg Solti, he moved to singing after failing to qualify with the GB Basketball Team for the 1964 Olympics. Became the permanent Chorus Director of the Royal Opera House in 1991, though I'm not sure when he retired from that role, perhaps 2004 according to this including a link to a podcast including an interview from 2018 https://classicaltop5.podbean.com/e/bonus-edition-terry-edwards/

There's an out of date bio here, including his dob: https://www.bach-cantatas.com/Bio/Edwards-Terry.htm
