I had one of these removed from my nose in August, unfortunately the skin graft failed so I’m left with quite a scar but I was fucking ugly before anyway so no great loss, the cancer was fully removed which is the important thing, hope your mum does ok.

Lady FN had one on her back, they gave her a cream to burn the bastard out. All gone but just a faint mark of where it was.

She was fucking ugly before too..........

Just sneezed and pulled a muscle in my chest to the extent that I’m convinced my heart has stopped.

I can’t guarantee I’ll get a QO.

I would’ve posted in this in the poetry thread but the brief is ‘crap’ poetry. This poem isn’t crap. And, as nurses begin their perfectly justified and easily avoidable strike today, it’s one to keep in mind.

It’s been rather an odd few days but it’s just starting to sink in; on New Years Evening I got engaged. I’m exhausted by the emotion and the kind of shellshocked feeling of it but I’m stupidly happy.

Congratulations.  I’ve been engaged for 12 years.  The old man feels marriage is not something one should rush into.

Congratulations. I can understand that feeling as I had wedding three months ago. Enjoy every moment of it.

I was tempted to put this in @Book 's Kill or Save 80's thread but I don't want to interrupt the game as it can get quite chaotic at the best of times bit I thought about all the songs that will not crop up in that game. I have picked one from each year and only used each artist once

1980 Babooshka  - Kate Bush

1981 Wordy Rappinghood - Tom Tom Club

1982 Senses Working Overtime - XTC

1983 Drop The Pilot - Joan Armatrading

1984 A New England - Kirsty MacColl

1985 Road to Nowhere  - Talking Heads

1986 Sledgehammer  - Peter Gabriel

1987 This Corrosion - Sisters of Mercy

1988 She Makes My Day - Robert Palmer

1989 Don't Ask Me Why - Eurythmics

This Corrosion is great, you can feel the Jim Steinman influence (he produced it) from every sound!

Also, New England has Billy Bragg's finest verse:

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care.

:D

I'll give it a shot then

1980 - ELO: Last Train to London (I know it got released before Christmas 79 but it just counts as an 1980 chart song. Hah)

1981 - Visage: Fade to Grey

1982 - Stranglers: Golden Brown (though near impossible to choose between that and Party Fears Two)

1983 - Mike Oldfield: Moonlight Shadow

1984 - Prince: When Doves Cry (another tough year)

1985 - Tears for Fears: Everybody Wants to Rule the World

1986 - Queen: A Kind of Magic

1987 - Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield: What Have I Done To Deserve This?

1988 - Iron Maiden: Can I Play With Madness?

1989 - Beautiful South: Song for Whoever

Well, that was tougher than it looked, Mr Biblio.

I tried not to go to obscure. Thinking of things that actually charted and on another day I would make different choices

1986 - Queen: A Kind of Magic

I actually had to check because I was convinced this reached No.1

I assumed you meant charting otherwise tonnes of Metallica and Kirsty Maccoll which didn't chart would be up there.

It's stunning to look back on it, for one of the biggest bands in history, but they only had one number one between Bohemian Rhapsody and Innuendo - Under Pressure with Bowie!

The fact none of these three stone cold classics didn’t make the top 10 is a travesty!

These two masterpieces too…no.9 and no.13 respectively. Absolute crime.

I just read that Blue Monday hit No.9 later that year, so it didn't count that well.

Blue Monday and Never let me down again hit #2 in the German charts, just sayin' ;)

Actually this did reach the top 10..eventually. It initially reached 12 but after their semi-legendarily disastrous live appearance on Top of the Pops it went down the charts before inexplicably moving back to high as number 9 in October 1983.

I limited myself to one Kate Bush and there was other stuff in 85 that I wanted to include. Note there is no Genesis here because their best stuff is album tracks

I didn't notice you had Blue Monday, so I'll change my selection.
