Philheybrookbay1 260 Posted December 23, 2023 That's a heck of a loss with Roy Tucker. Was the bad boy of Ambridge in his youth but grew into a likeable character. Guess he'll move to Birmingham to be with Mike Tucker his Dad I guess?

DevonDeathTrip 2,386 Posted June 27, 2024 Just noticed that Phil Molloy, who plays Will Grundy, has now been on The Archers for 35 years. That's a fairly brief tenure for an Archers actor, but given he is still only 43 and has stated his intention to stay on the programme "until I die", then he may go on to break all sorts of acting longevity records.
DevonDeathTrip 2,386 Posted July 29, 2024 A rare appearance this week from Patricia Greene (93) as Jill in the Archers. Apparently she is almost completely blind, very deaf and the word is her scene was recorded in the care home where she has lived for some time. 1 1

It must be fairly hard to record radio when you are very deaf, let alone nearly blind.
DevonDeathTrip 2,386 Posted August 30, 2024 Bert Horrabin is featuring prominently as a silent character at the moment and I would think is going to be killed off shortly. He used to be played by Martyn Read, who died in 2022. Apparently he also appeared in something called Star Wars.
Grimgrass 576 Posted August 30, 2024 Recent article about Lesley Saweard: https://www.lincolnshireworld.com/news/people/star-of-the-archers-soap-is-now-a-talking-newspaper-volunteer-in-louth-at-age-of-90-4747311 She is now a talking newspaper volunteer. There's a picture on the article, looks ok to me.

She made an appearance a few days ago for Jill's birthday. Voice noticeably weaker and has lost a lot of its character had to rewind to check it was her.Definitely sounds as though she isn't in a studio with the other actors and actresses in her scenes which certainly backs up the idea she has been recording from her care home.

Sean 6,567 Posted November 8, 2024 Sad news but what a remarkable long life. She died just 5 days before her character turned 100.

Nonsense. Dames in media and arts have appeared in a wide range of work. Spencer's career was almost entirely limited to a single radio show. Wouldn't have qualified for a Damehood.
MrWonderful 497 Posted November 9, 2024 Hit #21 for me this year, which is the best "performance" I've had since I started doing Top 50 Lists. I had a great aunt who lived to be two weeks shy of her 105th birthday, and Ms. Spencer even surpassed that. That's a damn good run. RIP.

So sad to see her so frail I do hope we're not going to lose two of the matriarchal greats of The Archers , Peggy (June Spencer) and Jill (Patricia Greene) in relatively quick succession. I'm assuming that sometime this year the shows bosses will actually kill Peggy of rather than continue with the character being unheard in a care home. I would be surprised if they left it past 2025 although technically they easily could. I love the characters of Jill and like Peggy you can feel their presence even when just referenced by other characters saying they, seen, visited, chatted on the phone with them etc. Losing Shula after Judy Bennett decided to leave in recent years was also a blow. Wishing Patricia Greene all the best.
