Vinegar Tits 607 Posted January 9, 2013 Apparently the print edition of the Southend Echo is reporting Canvey Island's finest Wilko Johnson has terminal cancer and is refusing chemo. He did have to cancel a hometown gig back in November last year due to being taken into hospital but that's the latest on the SE website at the moment. A statement should be on Wilko's website shortly. Really sad news, but obviously one to watch depending on what sort of cancer it is.

Vinegar Tits 607 Posted January 9, 2013 Oh heck That news has really knocked the wind out of me. Confirmation here Anyone know if cancer of the pancreas is a 'bad' cancer? As for what will be a farewell tour, he's not playing anywhere near me. Hopefully he'll add some more dates.
Spade_Cooley 9,627 Posted January 9, 2013 Was Wilko Johnson discussed here before? For some reason his Wikipedia page has been viewed by me in the past month and I have no idea why. If it's pancreatic cancer, he'd be doing very well to make the starting line for 2014. Better make the most of this farewell tour.

I feel honoured that I got to have a beer with him (well I had a beer, he had water) when he played as a guest on John Otway's "21st anniversary of the hit" gig at the Royal Albert Hall. Just wish I could get back in time to see him gig just one last time.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 9, 2013 Looks like he'll be joining Lee Brilleaux and Ian Dury in pub rock heaven then...

Just one more album and one more tour and it's goodnight. So sad.

Political leaders, television stars and the like I can handle but...not WILKO!! Met the man myself, top bloke, great musician, brilliant performer.

Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted January 10, 2013 He also played the executioner who [where's the spoiler alert feature?] chopped off someone important's head at the end of season 1 on Game of Thrones. http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Ilyn_Payne Must be a definite DL candidate for 2014, partly because the deadline - "Roger, Wilko, over and out" - writes itself. thefunkyfaz 51 Posted January 10, 2013 Oh heck That news has really knocked the wind out of me. Confirmation here Anyone know if cancer of the pancreas is a 'bad' cancer? My brother died 8 days after being diagnosed with it. Admittedly they "caught" it very late and by then it had spread to other major organs, but it's one of the really nasty ones that shows no symptoms until it's too late. Sadly, I'll be very surprised if Wilko's still here in the summer.

I think you're right that he won't make it to the summer.
