Spade_Cooley 9,522 Posted October 25, 2016 All pre 74 WC winning captains now dead, all 74 and onwards still with us. Beckenbauer, Passarella, Zoff and Maradona: all have a good chance of being the next name crossed off the list.
msc 18,439 Posted October 25, 2016 A shame, but he's part of history forever, really. (Well, sporting history...) As for the post-70 captains, Zoff seems most likely to go next off that list, hasn't he had health issues in the recent past? Though I wouldn't put it beyond Matthaus or Dunga to suddenly snuff it one day.

Fun looking back at his best ever goal. Plus, here is the ex chairman who authorised his signing whilst injured, disguised as a golf bag.

msc 18,439 Posted December 28, 2016 Did I ever do that List of Living World Cup managers I was planning? I might have got distracted... Anyhow, very brief interview with Ignacio Trelles, manager of the 1962 and 66 Mexico side, who turned 100 this year. I'd say a centenarian multiple world cup appearing manager would be a cert for a Guardian obit when he goes.
