Or he does not, since his day of birth is in fact October 1st. He was falsely cited as born on September 22nd in a passport in 1945 and kept that date. Maybe he wanted to celebrate earlier.

Crossing my fingers that he stands for ten days more, since this would be the second time in history to have two centenarian Nobel laureates alive at the same time. (From December 2010 to December 2012 that were Rita Levi-Montalcini and Ronald Coase, the first two Nobel laureates who turned 100.)

Well, now Yang Chen-Ning is 100. :birthday:

Not sure if any birthday pictures have been released atleast yet. I recall he was quite frail a few years ago

Here's a recent picture. Out and about for dinner, but in the video he looked mummified.

Hollywood Reporter obit for restauranteur Madame Sylvia Wu, who has died just weeks shy of 107.

Her restaurant Madame Wu's Garden served Hollywood's A list from 1959 until its closure in 1998. Among them: Cary Grant, Mae West, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Mia Farrow, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett, Walter Matthau, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg.

Surprising that she was on nobody's radar given that the U.S. press covered her 100th birthday in 2015.

Mihai Șora's facebook seems to have very suddenly gone quiet on the 20th of July.

No explanation was ever given, but he came back and complained about his electricity bill being really high. (The 105-year-old apprently only has one small lightbulb, the smallest fridge on the market, an HP laptop which "was never very power-hungry", an apple tablet, a mobile phone and a washing machine that he "does not abuse")

Anyways, seems to be in great health and is probably the sharpest and most tech-savvy centenarian I have ever seen. Hasn't had a lot of health issues in the past either, except for one one-month hospitalisation in ICU with a swollen gallbladder in 2018. Will be 106 in a month.

If these pictures are actually new, he doesn't look bad considering he has lived in a hospital for more or less the last five years.

For completeness's sake, as mentioned elsewhere:

Nepalese scholar Satya Mohan Joshi dead at 102/103 (death notice says 103, Wiki says 102):

He was 102. There's no confusion. They use a different calendar system in Nepal, and they consider you to already be "one year old" from the time you're born.
