Deathray 2,944 Posted September 5, 2019 Michael Gove going with the Beach Boys approach to a select committee hearing asking him what happens after the 1st November.
YoungWillz 21,457 Posted September 5, 2019 Bawjaws about to speak in Wakefield. Backed, by the looks of it, by all the remaining police officers in Wakefield. Crime wave due! (Which Bawjaws will blame on Sadiq Khan, no doubt).

YoungWillz 21,457 Posted September 5, 2019 Evening Standard, Evening Standard! "Asked by the paper (in 2013) if he and Jo were similar to David and Ed, Boris said: "We don't do things that way, that's a very leftwing thing. "Only a socialist could do that to his brother, only a socialist could regard familial ties as being so trivial as to shaft his own brother. "I mean, unbelievable. Only lefties can think like that ... they see people as discrete agents devoid of ties to society or to each other, and that's how Stalin could murder 20 million people."

YoungWillz 21,457 Posted September 6, 2019 Thought it would be invaluable to post the above lest we forget how well Bawjaws did as Mayor, which he regards as some sort of heroic period of championship for London. Seriously, was leafing through the comments on the 2017 election lead up and result. Spade Cooley correctly identified that Tezza would be gone by 2020 at the latest. Sean also seemed to think that she'd hang on for a couple of years and possibly be replaced by Bawjaws. I predicted a hung parliament about 4 weeks out from the election of 2017 when the polls were heavily in favour of the Conservatives. Can't remember but someone also mentioned defections from the Tories, but they thought they'd be to UKIP...ah, salad days. Joey Russ suggested Javier Perez de Cuellar might die around election time...the Peruvian lives. Sadly many were wrong, thinking Tezza could maybe manage a few months at most, and suggesting a possible Autumn election. Looks like charon wanted an October election during his lifetime...he might just get his way!
Deathray 2,944 Posted September 6, 2019 The opposition have confirmed that the government will not get support for it's general election motion on Monday. This means Boris's only way out is to call a vote of no confidence in himself.

Thatcher 2,684 Posted September 7, 2019 Some polls out this today, with fieldwork done from the 4th-6th which is after the legislation went through the House of Commons, after the purge of Tory MPs and after the opposition parties ran scared from a general election. YouGov: Conservative - 35% (-) Labour - 21% (-4%) Lib Dem - 19% (+3%) Brexit Party - 12% (+1%) Opinium: Conservative - 35% (+3%) Labour - 25% (-1%) Lib Dem - 17% (+2%) Brexit Party - 13% (-3%) Panelbase: Conservative - 31% (+10%) Labour - 28% (-3%) Lib Dem - 19% (+6%) Brexit Party - 15% (-4%) Greens - 2% (-3%) Regardless of how much of a catastrophe this week has been for Boris, the public appears to like his hardened Brexit stance. Incredible given all what's gone on really, but I think when the inevitable election comes it will be a shocker - even more so if as some newspapers are reporting the Tories and Brexit Party are touching base about an electoral pact. If the Government is really falling apart and it's all such a damned disgrace as they claim, then instead of moaning about it why doesn't Corbyn & Co. do something about it and vote for an election? Because the sole purpose of that election is to get a no deal Brexit during the campaign. We're having an election. Once Boris has got the extension until the 31st January. When two cabinet ministers have resigned in as many days you know you're up shit creek as a government.

We're up to 28% to 31% from 25% to 35% in a matter of days. An election campaign will only narrow that gap. And the polls have been wrong so many times. Grim Up North 3,776 Posted September 11, 2019 This Brexit lark has been great news for the legal profession Presumably now the Government will appeal and by the time the legal process is complete the 5 weeks will be up anyway.

Maybe the Tories will now ensure that rUK leaves the Union between it and Scotland. I mean, that's what Tories normally do when they dislike rulings of a Court - see EU. I think this is something you would like as a Scot. I think we are stronger and better together but sympathise with a lot of the issues of feeling neglected by the south. Unions, whether European or UK, need work and all parties need to feel they are part of the union and that it is delivering on most of what they want from a union. Difficult to achieve but unfortunately one has already failed subject to us freeing ourselves from the strait jacket and the other may well fail once that has happened. Unfortunately, it isn't just neglect. When folk on Question Time talk of dumping their excess nuclear waste in Scotland, gaining chuckles and cheers.... When Scottish Parliament budgets are cut merely on political grounds rather than financial requirement... When politicians take our farmers' EU payments and spend the majority of them in England... When Inheritance Tax revenues paid on a UK wide basis are appropriated for care budgets solely in England... When Scotland cries out for immigration and globalisation, she is ignored because folk down South are becoming more insular and nationalistic.... When Bawjaws has made statements that no Scot could or should ever become Prime Minister of the UK.... I could go on and on. The Union hasn't worked for Scotland in decades. If Bawjaws does get in at any election, the Union is over.
