Sir Creep 7,070 Posted March 10, 2021 The first whooping crane hatched at the International Crane Foundation in Wisconsin has died. Foundation officials said the crane, named Gee Whiz, died Feb. 24 of natural causes. He was 38 years, 9 months old. A whooping crane’s average life expectancy in captivity is about 25 years. The oldest crane in captivity died at age 46, according to the foundation. Gee Whiz sired 178 cranes and was known for his nasty disposition. Officials with the foundation, which is located in Baraboo, said he was fiercely territorial and that workers dreaded handling him because he pecked their ankles and fingers. Awww, he sounds like a sweetie SC
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted March 11, 2021 Two giraffes died in a fire at a zoo in Virginia on Monday, according to the zoo and the local fire department. Roer's Zoofari said in a Facebook post that staff were "devastated" by the loss of their "beloved giraffe" named Waffles and his new companion that had not yet been named. The Zoofari owner received a call around 5:30 p.m. that the barn was on fire, according to the post from the zoo. The zoo website said the fire occurred after the zoo had closed for the day. Zoo staff and the veterinarian arrived on scene to help rescue and care for 20 other animals. Sounds to me like Waffles and his new mate had a roll in the hay, and a post-coital cigarette in the hay as well. SC

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted April 28, 2021 Reggie the Campus Corgi swam in the Pacific Ocean, hiked through Zion National Park and flew on airplanes across the country. There was no place he was happier, though, than walking through the University of Michigan campus to brighten the days of students and staff alike, Reggie’s owner Michael P. Sola said. The red-and-white Pembroke Welsh corgi, whose presence as a greeter on the UM campus and in downtown Ann Arbor made him a minor celebrity, died unexpectedly on Dec. 20, 2020, at the age of 10. Sola confirmed Reggie’s passing on his Facebook page last week.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted July 23, 2021 A veterinary surgeon in Beijing has become China's first documented human death from the Monkey B virus, a rare and potentially fatal disease contracted from primates like macaque monkeys. The Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report on Saturday that the man, 53, was working in a lab that did experimental research on non-human primate breeding. The Chinese CDC added that the researcher, who remains unnamed, dissected two dead monkeys on March 4 and 6 of this year. After dissecting the monkeys, the man started experiencing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and fever, before eventually dying on May 27. SC
