As far as I know there's still two. Monster, murderer named Santiago Sinclair (1988-1990) who is 95 and probably to avoid prison is at a psychiatric hospital due to alleged "mental insanity" and is "dangerous to others and himself", and his successor Jorge Lucar, 89 who only served for two months before the junta was dissolved.

Tras Honan, the only woman to have held the post of Cathaoirleach (Chairperson) in the Seanad (Irish Upper House) has died aged 93.

A pick in the Hare's pool, but yet another miss for my Irish Theme team in the DDP. Likely would not have received a QO in any case. Even in Ireland, no-one plays a blind bit of attention to the Seanad, except to occasionally  talk about scrapping it.

Some of these went on to have ministerial careers such as Richard Caborn and other are already on the radar like Ian Paisley but assembling a DDP team from this lot would be a leap of faith as many will be tocuh and go for an Obit. However if you have spies in the local press then this could be a good source of information.

 

The 1979 elections were held on the First past the post principal with constituencys being roughly approximated to counties it is only in later elections that we get the regional approach and a move to the D'Hondt system.

Not quite sure what's caused such a large amount of retirements, but all these men are above life expectancy so worth watching.

Norman Irons and James Douglas-Hamilton died just a few days apart and were both candidates for the Edinburgh West seat at the 1987 UK General Election. Hamilton narrowly held the seat against his Liberal challenger, Derek G. King (b. 1949), who seems to still be alive. The fourth candidate, Labour's Mike McGregor (former Edinburgh councillor, b. 1940), is not only still alive too, but has just tweeted about their deaths:

Never gave us a chance with his short retirement.

 

His defeat in 1997 was caught on BBC live because the cameras rushed there thinking it was Rifkinds seat. Rifkind was known to be doomed by that point though so Douglas Hamilton's defeat confirmed there'd be no Tory MPs in Scotland. Briefly!

Well we did lose Munger on 28th, Kissinger yesterday and MacGowan today. Maybe not all on the same day but I can't recall a close sequence of big name celebrity deaths happen since George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in December 2016.
