Been told that Harry Greenway (wiki), 86, former Conservative MP for Ealing North (1979–1997) is in the final stages of dementia. Diagnosed about a decade ago.

Easy scoring for the DDP... if he even makes it to next year.

Don't know much about him, bribery scandal disappeared.

All I know is he is a deeply Christian person who believed in beating children at school by the reintroduction of corporal punishment and seems to have had a fetish for hospital matrons.

Harry Greenway reportedly dead:

NZ Green MP Efeso Collins dead at the age of 49 after collapsing at a local fun run in Auckland, per New Zealand Herald. He is the first MP in NZ to die in office in 11 years, and apparently only made his maiden speech last week. Likely a heart issue as EMTs used defibrillators but could not revive him, but that remains unconfirmed.

Telegraph obit for Maureen Hicks.

Telegraph obit for Sir Colin Shepherd.

Above obit helpfully gives us a date of death for Shepherd.

--------------------------------------------------------------
5 MPs died over 4 days in January:

Sir Tony Lloyd and Sir Colin Shepherd on 17th, Harry Greenway on 18th, Sir Graham Bright on 19th and Lord John Tomlinson on 20th.

That's surely a record in such a short space of time?

Plymouth MP Johnny Mercer has got a real slapping down at the public inquiry into special forces murders in Afghanistan: https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/johnny-mercer-warned-serious-legal-9116102

Isn't the complexion of his constituency against him anyway? About to be an ex-MP?

The Tories are losing by-elections with huge majorities so the obvious answer is yes,

Even so, Mercer is a useless, attention-seeking wanker so  he would lose his seat even in a close GE.

Possibly, but I wouldn't be completely certain that Labour pick it up. It's a very White Working Class seat with a strong military background. It's difficult to say with Mercer as he's quite divisive, but possible he gets a better than average incumbency bonus. I can see a scenario where Labour get a majority of say 40/50 and this seat just about holds on for the Tories, whereas less marginal targets may perish. It all depends on where you think Labour's swing is going to come from, is it likely to be greater or lesser in amongst demographic groups which have been trending away from them since at least 2010? Might well be big enough swing to make the distinction a moot one in Mercer's case but it is dangerous to call an election this far out (2017 anyone?).
