I set this challenge at the beginning of the thread to INH but kept thinking about it and have done the deed myself.

Listed below are twenty big pop stars who have NOT been picked in 2016 for DDP. I am not saying they are ill but any deaths from this list would be a shock

  1. Neil Diamond
  2. Phil Collins
  3. Kate Bush
  4. Noddy Holder
  5. Chrissie Hynde
  6. Debbie Harry
  7. Annie Lennox
  8. Roy Wood
  9. Jeff Lynne
  10. Donny Osmond
  11. Andy Bell
  12. Bob Geldof
  13. Suzi Quatro
  14. Brian Eno
  15. Barry Gibb
  16. Elton John
  17. Leo Sayer
  18. Cat Stevens
  19. Gladys Knight
  20. Julio Iglesias

Around half your list had a top thirty UK hit in 1981 - I'm guessing I'll have at least one or more on my DDP next year.

Gladys Knight seems the most likely out of that list to go first.

Guest TodayandTomorrow

Some names:

Stevie Wonder

Mariah Carey

One u2 member

Kylie Minogue

Nick Cave

Madonna (yes her death will shock many people)

Adele (she will remembered as Amy Winehouse was)

In my list I'd add Mylene Farmer, an enigmatic French singer who released a song with Sting months ago.

RIP Prince 1958 - 2016. A true shock and truly a huge loss. Congrats on who voted for him (there was only one vote).

By the end of 2016 half of that list will be under ground.

Nobody mentioned here that Emile Ford (he of What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For ?) died today.

Maybe they'll send his coffin off on a slow boat to China.

Paul Wellers death this year would be another rock-shocker.. especially in the UK.

We now have our next shock music wise -Percy Sledge

You're a year late.

Indeed but for some inexplicable reason his death is trending on twitter!?

So is Amy and Michael Jackson.

I guess Prince's death made people reminisce about other recent music deaths.

Edit: Nevermind about Amy.

It's not Amy Winehouse, it's a girl named Amy who got beaten to death at her school.

I'd give the highest chance of a freak death (in more than one way) to Prince. It's about time for him to go so that even his later work receives some kind of critical (over-)appraisal, as it happened with Jackson and maaaybe Bowie (though some of the newer stuff is fantastic as well and the last album was a cultural milestone).

Nice one, GC!

We all agree that when a superstar like Prince dies, we start to love them. Although I love his older music, now that he's on the metal table I kinda feel sorry for him. But, that's life. He lived it to the fullest. He's a legend now. Long live Prince.

I agree with few of you, George Michael is next.

Well I'm sorry, but I never liked Prince, and I won't be rushing out to buy his music now.

He wrote a few brilliant songs, but they were much better performed by other people IMO.

I didn't like his whiny voice and I found him so physically repulsive that his overtly sexual lyrics were nauseating.
