Actually, we'll be spared a couple of alubm titles with unspeakable acronyms and random, "cool" letter/number combinations. He was a total anachronism, the second-to-last black megastar who made it without hip-hop influence. He stopped to matter when Gangsta rap came up around 1994/95. Is there any other afircan-american artist who plays "real" instruments and writes his own songs? I can only think of the very last one, Lenny Kravitz, also irrelevant now. That said, he had a couple of killer tunes, but also a lot of average stuff. He was not the dancer and magnetic personality that Michael Jackson was, but he had a lot more musical skill. And as I said above in this thread, I expected him to die young. There's a post by me in my history, if anyone is really bored to check, that says that Prince could be the Whitney Houston of 2015, i.e. the unexpected mega star death of the year.
