Nigel Farage

Recommended Posts

As I write this, we are now in the closing hours of 2016, and what a year it's been - the news has dominated by celebrity deaths, terrorism, and of course the election of Donald Trump and the Brexit vote and the as yet unknown consequences of these political developments. The most significant thing to happen in the UK in the year 2016 was of course the vote to leave the European Union, and without Nigel Farage and UKIP, it is highly unlikely that the whole Brexit thing would ever have happened in the first place, as Cameron gave in to pressure to allow a referendum.

Now whatever your opinions on Farage, although the man may only be 52 years old, he is well worth watching from a Deathlist perspective. Reasons include:

He survived testicular cancer in 1986 at the age of 24. As a result, he only has one testicle.

He survived a plane crash in 2010. Of course he lived, but this can't have done his body much good. He also survived a car crash in 1985.

The man is a heavy smoker and drinks daily. This can't be good for his health at all.

Although he has now retired as leader of UKIP, he had a high profile and high stress political job for many years. Being a controversial politician who is despised by many is likely to have increased his stress levels.

He has previously said that he has got the body of a 70 year old due to the plane crash, the stress of his job, and drinking and smoking, and being a cancer survivor.

Particularly after the Brexit vote, he can't go out in public without a bodyguard due to the very real risk of being physically assaulted or even assassinated - hell, if it could happen to someone as innocuous as Jo Cox, surely a more controversial and influential figure like Farage is a much more of a target?

Do I think Farage is likely to die next year? No, I do not. Do I think he may well die within the next 10-15 years? It really isn't that unlikely at all.

I welcome your thoughts...

Would be shocked if he died in 2017 but I think he may well not make life expectancy.Worth keeping an eye on.It is difficult to know how much he actually drinks and smokes as they seem to be a gimmick.I am sure it is a lot but difficult to quantify. The plane crash damaged his back which could eventually lead to immobility.I can see him living to 70 odd though.

Don't think he's going to worry us any time soon.

Yeah - you do wonder whether the "hard living lifestyles" of certain people (like, say, Keith Richards as a good example, or Lemmy as another) have been exaggerated in the media. The same could quite easily apply to Farage with his love of a fag and a pint!

We should watch out for John Goodman if we are thinking about likely hood of a heart attack.

Not as fat as he used to be. You could equally say Robbie Coltrane, Brian Blessed, anyone else who's larger than life.

If we're talking politicians, Clare Short has aged terribly, looked awful on Newsnight a few months back. Wouldn't surprise me if she's your typical "dies in their mid-70s" former Cabinet member. She's 70 now.

Nigel has survived alot and if you believe in higher beings, fate and us all being here for a reason then him plaing a big role in leading Britain out of the EU may have been what he was here to do and why he survived his close shaves with death . Not many people survive the type of plane crash he did, also survived cancer in his earlier years. He is a fighter (maybe a little bit of luck too) you can't deny that whether you agree with his politics or not. He just wants whats best for the UK he isn't a horrible person IMO. However now that his work is done he very well may not live decades , wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make 60 being a smoker and all.

He just wants what gets him on the front page. With him it is ego and self-promotion, pure and simple

Wouldn't be surprised if he dies in 2018. This man is not as strong as he pretends to be.

As long as he can pick up a pint he'll be fine.

To be fair about Farage's show - it wasn't cancelled (as in axed due to poor ratings) he was evacuated from the building by security.

Loads more chucklesome banter to come once the area is made safe

I would personally encourage him to get out and about as much as possible in these times. A holiday in Italy or Spain or even the USA too. "Nigel Farage visited by police over 'breaching lockdown' by travelling to Dover to report on migrants"  https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/coronavirus/nigel-farage-visited-by-police-over-breaching-lockdown-by-travelling-to-dover-to-report-on-migrants/ar-BB13AK8G?ocid=spartanntp

His comparison was based on his assertion that tearing down historical statues/monuments, because you do not like what they represent, was no better than the actions of the Taliban.

In perspective, such a comparison is bollocks but, in view of what has happened so far and the threat to do the same to hundreds of others that have fallen foul of our new guardians of morality and equality, he has a point.

That does not mean that he isn't a cunt, it just means that the parable has some mileage to a vast majority of people who are majorly fucked off with yet another peaceful pressure group being hijacked by extremist bastards who are using the whole shebang for there own agenda.

The beauty of being a moderate on the Political spectrum is that you can sort through the shite and find things that actually resonate.

Hey, even some of Corbyns words resonated with me, the rest of what he said was bollocks, mind.

Open minds and all that.

The knock down the statues group here used to be the UK Stop Trump group what used to be Stop the Cuts, ie a fringe SWP style cut off from the old Stop the War lot. It has very little to do with BLM and is more a bandwagon jumping by the usual sorts which comes across as patronising the very black lives they claim matter. I used to work in and around these types of people so I know their motivation and tactics well. There are some Statue debates around BLM (not as much as is stirred up on twitter) but on the whole these tend to be around statues put up within our lifetimes*, not actual historical artifacts like Nelsons Column here. Not that I'm shocked the same old Citizen Smith protesters here miss the fucking point as usual.

So even then I'd say he's wrong because his route from Point A to Point B in the analogy is rerouted by the existence of these types being the ones behind the thing he is railing against. But he's left the radio because he's clearly chomping at the bit to get back into politics, so this is largely irrelevant.

(Also in the manner of being open minded, I much prefer things on the whole don't get censored and removed because that does nothing to teach folk about the context and history of a thing or why it happened. But I'm also of the view that anyone putting up a statue to a well known racist in a city centre in 1998 - as with that Rizzo thing in Philly - is a blatant shit stirrer trying to make a scene. See, moderates are capable of thinking on non-binary levels about things!)

PS - Farage did agree with me on the VAT on preserving historical buildings, so its not like I chuck everything he says in the bin, much like yourself and Corbyn. Or myself and Corbyn. Anyhow, I digress!

*As in your actual lifetime give or take a decade, not my comedy "LFN is 700 years old" running gag based on your "I'm so old" posts. :D

You think that lot started with Stop the War, I used to be mates with a student activist involved in these idiots the timeline for most of the decreped old codgers who were involved (this was the Stop the Cuts era) - many of them were basically hippy leftovers from the counter-culture who smoked so much pot and did so much LSD they never grew up....

Stop the Cuts > Stop the War > Socialist Worker Party > Militant > CND/Ban the Bomb

Many of them would have also stopped off at Black Bloc /  PETA, / Liberation Front / Animal Rights / Unite Against Fascism on the bus to bonkers stopping at batshit.

I'm not saying many these organisations (Black bloc excepted) didn't have members who weren't crust lunatics from a tiny subset of society who protest for the rights of boiled cabbages if it meant scrapping with police, just that a fuck load of those involved in all of these movements are exactly that....

(One of the mods obviously agrees - quickest post approval in history )
