Although he never held high office, he was a far more consequential figure in French politics and society than, say, Nicolas Sarkozy or François Hollande.

Good riddance to the cunt, a blight on French politics for decades.

DeathList are quick on the draw with the obit too!

+ I just came across these two posts from Le Gorafi (the French equivalent of The Onion) that made me laugh. I'll let you translate them. First one would have been a great headline.

A hit for me in January early days of course  so it's 1-1 with the Main list.

A hit for me, but am trying to figure out why I had him so low on my list (49).

Not only a Holocaust denier but also a woman beater (he assaulted a rival political candidate in 1997), and apparently a war criminal (allegedly tortured Algerian POWs during their war of independence).

He didn’t deny Holocaust, he said that it was a detail in the history of WW2, which isn’t the same thing.

About the "assault" he cornered her into in a wall and yelled at her. He was big and yelling so I easily understand that she was frightened and crying, but that not makes him a woman beater.

But talking about violence, why dont you talk about the fact that he, his wife and their children daughters miraculously escape to death when their appartment was bombed ?

About the Algerian War, apparently and allegedly are the key words here.

too bad he, himself, admitted (in 1962, before his big fame) he participated in the torture of several Algerians. Too bad he was also found guilty, twice, for these acts in early 2000.

quoting from his own mouth : "‘I have nothing to hide. We tortured because it had to be done".

and, since it doesn’t seem to bother you, here is him talking about what he did. I don’t think « allegedly » and « apparently » are useful anymore.

I was talking about the term "war criminal" which seems to me exagerated.

Did you actually like this far right twat? If not, why not join others in celebrating his demise instead of trying to argue technicalities?

Yes. Though I never voted for him. I’m old enough to have vote in the présidential elections in 2002 and 2007, but by that time I had left wing ideas.

Allow me to sincerely doubt it: we’ve already discussed this in private, and I doubt that you were old enough to vote in 2002 and 2007, and I doubt even more that you ever voted for the left in your life. That’s not even the point here. You’re playing with words to defend someone who tortured, who flirted with Nazism his entire life, and who was convicted dozens of times by republican institutions. It doesn’t matter if we don’t share the same political views, but when 82% of the French people, regardless of their political orientation, vote against him in 2002, it’s not because they don’t belong to the same party as him: it’s because 82% of the French people understood at that moment that he was a danger to the Republic and to France.

Now, I won't argue anymore on this.

Believe what you want, I’ve no reasons to lie about this.
