Guardian obit at some point I imagine.

As I suspected, Guardian obit.

She was also not to be seen while her documentary was premiered. And she hasn't been on social media at all the past weeks. Seems like this is going to be it.

Correct. 6 weeks to the day since @gcreptile posted this about Vicky Phelan.

Gustavo Moncayo, Colombian peace activist and the "peace walker" has died rather quick at 69:

https://confidencialcolombia.com/nacion/fallecio-gustavo-moncayo-el-caminante-por-la-paz/2022/11/15/

I might have played him in the DDP because he has an english wikipedia page.

Mercedes Colás de Meroño, vice president of Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo has died aged 95.

The alive main people of Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo are getting older. These groups got Videla behind bars.

Here's a list of some of them who are still alive:

Grandmothers:

Mirta Acuña de Baravalle (b. 1925) One of the founders of these organizations.

Rosa Tarlovsky de Roisinblit (b. 1919) One of the founders of Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo and current Vice President.

Beatriz H. C. Aicardi de Neuhaus (b. 1925?) One of the founders of Grandmothers

Estela de Carlotto (b. 1930) Current President of Grandmothers

Mothers:

Hebe de Bonafini (b. 1928) Leader of Mothers, one of the founders of Mothers

Haydeé Gastelú (birth date likely 1928, she and the ones below have a Spanish wikipedia) One of the founders of Mothers

Taty Almeida (b. 1930)

Nora Cortiñas (b. 1930)

Elia Espen (b. 1931)

Vera Vigevani de Jarach (b. 1928)

Zaida Franz (b. 1928) Mother of astronomy student Ana Teresa Diego (1954-1976)

Sara Rus (b. 1927)

Hebe de Bonafini dead

"Bonafini expressed support for figures such as Che GuevaraFidel CastroAugusto SandinoYasser ArafatHugo ChávezEvo Morales, and the mothers of ETA prisoners. She declared herself against social democracycapitalismneo-liberalismglobalization, and the International Monetary Fund.[15] She also attacked Bolivian protesters for occupying Plaza de Mayo, calling them "shitty"; and suggested seizing the Supreme Court by force at the delays of the application of the Audiovisual Media Law."

Got to ask yourself what the true motives are of these "mothers".

Glad she's dead. She was an awful person.

She's in hell lol.

Quote

"In the wake of the 11 September 2001 attacks, Bonafini generated international controversy when she defended the actions of the terrorist airline hijackers saying "I felt that there were many people in that moment who were happy and felt that the blood of so many in that moment were avenged... because the NATO bombings, the blockades and the millions of children who die of hunger in this world, that was due to this power that those men attacked, with their own bodies. And everyone knew it." Bonafini stood behind her support to organizations accused of terrorism such as FARC.[8] Walter Wendelin [eu], leader of the etarran Askapena organization, was invited as guest teacher in the University of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.[9]"

Once again, I ask what are the true motives of the “Mothers”?

Seems like an organisational front for a darker movement, perhaps linked to Marxism?

Nah. I think she just had really radical, outspoken Marxist opinions. She lost two of her sons to a right wing military dictatorship. People who are victimised like that by right wing dictatorships will end up developing extreme views in the opposite direction for obvious reasons.

It's the same reason why people who fled Cuba or who are from former Soviet Union countries tend to hold very right wing views.

While we were all staring at Pele and George Alagiah to decide it... hilariously enough, I'd provisionally marked her out of 2023 consideration because she seemed to be stepping her workload up in recent months.

She was in the dreaded 15th to 25th zone on my DDP shortlist but I was erring to keeping her as the stats for her cancer's prognosis grew suitably grim in the next 12 months.

Mamie King-Chalmers, who was one of three Black people forced to brace themselves against a building while being blasted with water from a firehose in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963, has died. She was 81. A photo of the scene was snapped by Charles Moore and appeared in Life magazine.

I'm surprised no one picked Charlene Mitchell on the Presidential politics one: Aged 86, she is (as far as I can tell) the only surviving candidate from the 1968 Presidential election, when Richard Nixon beat Hubert Humphrey. She was the Communist Party's candidate, was under the required age to enter office and has remained involved in politics right up into the late 2000s. Maybe that's what put people off (it did me) but I'm surprised no one took a punt, particularly since Reptile took a punt on La Donna Harris, who I considered healthier than Mitchell.

There's occasional tweets that Charlene Mitchell has died, but no reporting so far. Hoax? And if so, why would anyone bother?

Someone on Twitter is calling fake news, I actually think the media are just being really slow/uninterested.

Charlene Mitchell was not under the age to run for President; if her birthdate on wiki is correct, she was 38, and Article II requires one to be at least 35.
