Betty Lockwood, Baroness Lockwood, Labour Party activist and equal opportunities campaigner, died yesterday aged 95, according to the list of Retired Lords on the Parliament website. https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/lords/retired-lords/

Also this:

Lords Hansard for today not up yet, but probably announced in the chamber today, or tomorrow. They are good at that sort of thing.

So close.....

She didn't die but it was a close one. A gun activist who runs a facebook site on gun sense faces a second-degree misdemeanor charge for not properly storing her (legally owned) gun. Her four-year old son got a hold of it on the back seat of her car and shot her by accident...

Edit:

Dammit, it was an old article. Sorry about that, but it she deserved some karma points.

The reason for posting this was that this article was at the bottom of another sad story about domestic violence. A woman in an (ending) abusive relationship faces burglary charges. Her husband was in jail due to the fact he tried to run her over with a car. She feared for her life, and the lives of her children given his violence and abuse towards her. While he was in jail, a judge granted her a temporary restraining order against her hisband, and "as part of the pre-trial release conditions, Joseph Irby was ordered not to use, possess or carry any weapons or ammunition." So, knowing he owned these guns, while he was in jail, she took his guns and immediately brought them to the police for safekeeping, so that he wouldn't have access to them once he got out of jail.

Read the rest of the story here.

Times Obit for Alan Stuart, one of the four Scottish students who attempted the repatriation of the Stone of Destiny to Scotland in 1950: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/alan-stuart-fp32zqct7

Incidentally, I saw a talking head with Ian Hamilton earlier this year, and although he's still upright, he's looking like a near possibility. He's the last survivor.

Edit: Just checked the Scottish obits, Stuart died back in March. Those obits do eventually come...

The cause was lung cancer, Greenpeace said in a statement. The American-born Mr. Sawyer was an Amsterdam resident.

W. George Allen, a hugely influential figure in Broward history and its black community, has died, his family confirmed Thursday. He was 83.

In 1962, Allen became the first African-American to graduate from the University of Florida.
U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings was Allen’s law partner and worked with him on lawsuits dealing with segregation and other civil rights matters.
Legal partners dying days apart!

I bet her party will be as fun as a wake.I cannot stand her self righteous demeanour. She reminds me of a Jehovah's witness.Could suck the joy out of anything.Much in the same way as Mary Whitehouse.

It still baffles me that people are impressed that she persuaded lots of kids not to go to school.  Surely most kids would jump at any excuse.
