drunkasaskunk 194 Posted January 1, 2020 The rules state "Picks that don't get an obituary from a reputable news source may not be scored. No legit obit, no hit." This makes sense. What makes no sense is that picks that MAY get an obituary from a reputable news source may be bounced from the game before it starts because someone isn't as clever as you for picking them. Why not let the obituary writers and news outlets decide who is famous enough? It should be up to the players to gamble on whether or not their picks get a QO or not. No legit obit, no hit.

Torva Messor 279 Posted January 2, 2020 I learned last-minute changes are accepted "as long as one's not an asshole about it". Re: Margaret Keane, I have an artwork original by her daughter Susan. All I'm hoping for this year is that my friend's $10/surplus hit bounty doesn't take me more than $50 out of pocket in our annual bet.
gcreptile 10,970 Posted January 3, 2020 Monarc hits the ground running with two sports hits.... I have no idea about obit cut-offs, but yeah, congratulations Mr. Kirshner for a successful title defence! Interesting however, how low the winning score was - and the other scores, across the board! The hit record for a single person, as far as I can see, is at 24. We were way off there, in spite of the new wave of people playing. On the DDP side, we had the third-most hits in history, with the potential to get one more hit to equal the second-most hits, with fewer teams.

Thank you very kindly, though I want to be careful because it's still unofficial. January 15th is the cutoff date for obituaries, to include anyone whose death gets reported in these early days of 2020, but who expired last year. Also be mindful the 25 point bonus for youngest hit of the year is awarded on the 15th, too. Seemingly won't affect me but will change the final overall standings. The 2019 game got off rather quickly and was on a pretty good pace throughout the year. Seemed to take most of November off, until the last week of that month. With more people playing, more hits and fewer solos may have been inevitable. A few daily doubles and year end hits shook things up. And, yes, the 2020 edition already has three hits in three days, with Monarc taking an early lead. Should be another good year, with a comparable number of people playing. Death Impends 7,971 Posted January 16, 2020 I like how for years Allen was second banana to Gerard Tierney in Alt Obits, but since joining the DL he's won twice in a row.
