The problem with Fauja Singh is that he has not any known health issue. Usually we refer as immortals to those who are very old and very very ill. People like Tiwari, Karunanidi, Le Duc Anh, Richie Overton, the Swami, bishop Quinn, George Fernandes.... Only Dilip Kumar is left from them, and maybe Anne Hamilton-Byrne.

 

Balbir Singh has proven to be a tough fucker, and the sad thing is I think he will live many years left as a zombie, slowly decomposing while he is still alive. In a few years we will be astonished by his staying power. But among the old generation only Dilip is left.... for how long?

One of the ratification problems with his records as I understand it is the absence of a birth certificate and therefore no actual proof of date of birth. The citation on the Wikipedia for his age is a newspaper reference.

 

That said, he's sure as hell old and the times run since moving to Ilford are reliable - it's just that he may be younger than claimed. That said, there's people under 30 couldn't run a marathon - so respect!

I thought of Sumner Redstone as well.

Then in the second generation Stanley Ho, Violetta Chamorro, and the king of Saudi Arabia (Salman?).

Redstone feels underrated in immortal discussions. He's been in a zombie state as long as Kumar but unlike Kumar his forum popularity kind of tapered off. I guess all the immortals that died in the past year could cause a Redstone resurgence.
