I guess Dilip Kumar is the King of Immortals now?

For me Fauja Singh, british runner and 108 years old, is the undisputed king of immortals (supposedly born in 1st April 1911), maybe an april fools trick, who knows :P

The problem with Fauja Singh is that he has not any known health issue. Usually we refer as immortals to those who are very old and very very ill. People like Tiwari, Karunanidi, Le Duc Anh, Richie Overton, the Swami, bishop Quinn, George Fernandes.... Only Dilip Kumar is left from them, and maybe Anne Hamilton-Byrne.

Balbir Singh has proven to be a tough fucker, and the sad thing is I think he will live many years left as a zombie, slowly decomposing while he is still alive. In a few years we will be astonished by his staying power. But among the old generation only Dilip is left.... for how long?

One of the ratification problems with his records as I understand it is the absence of a birth certificate and therefore no actual proof of date of birth. The citation on the Wikipedia for his age is a newspaper reference.

That said, he's sure as hell old and the times run since moving to Ilford are reliable - it's just that he may be younger than claimed. That said, there's people under 30 couldn't run a marathon - so respect!

I click on his Wikipedia page, and my god does he have such a striking resemblance to Johnny Cash...

I thought of Sumner Redstone as well.

Then in the second generation Stanley Ho, Violetta Chamorro, and the king of Saudi Arabia (Salman?).

I assume the DeathListees don't quite count.

Redstone feels underrated in immortal discussions. He's been in a zombie state as long as Kumar but unlike Kumar his forum popularity kind of tapered off. I guess all the immortals that died in the past year could cause a Redstone resurgence.

Well, if I had to write a short history...

The Dinosaurs:

Richard Overton (1906-2018)

Shivakumara Swamiji (1907-2019)

Li Rui (1917-2019)

Herman Wouk (1915)

Born in the 1920s, first generation:

Le Duc Anh (1920-2019)

ND Tiwari (1925-2018)

M. Karunanidhi (1924-2018)

Francis Quinn (1921-2019)

Dilip Kumar (1922)

The perennial dementia sufferers:

George Fernandes (1930-2019)

Monica Vitti (1931)

Joanne Woodward (1930)

Jeanne Little (1938)

Nobby Stiles (1942)

Anne Hamilton-Byrne (1921)

Sumner Redstone (1923)

Stanley Ho (1921)

The second generation of immortals:

Violeta Chamorro (1929)

Balbir Singh (1924)

Abdelaziz Bouteflika (1937)

And Leah Bracknell (1964). Simply undestructible.

Bunch of Hollywood historian types on Twitter reporting that Ruben Rueda has died. He was a bartender at Musso and Frank's for 50 years and had served pretty much everyone in Tinseltown. Nice piece on him from a few years ago here.

Fairly big news out in the States.

Film director John Singleton was taken off life support today and has untimely passed away at the age of 51.  Singleton is best known for directing the gritty urban drama Boyz n the Hood as well as the action thriller Four Brothers.

Okay, let's see if that works:

Looks like DDP pick Dave Agosti died around early April:

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fthenutones1%2Fposts%2F10155799430476330&width=500" width="500" height="594" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"></iframe>

Ehh, well it doesn't, I'm too stupid - anyway, check the NU-tones facebook page.

Edit: This is the obituary from the local newspaper: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/toledoblade/obituary.aspx?n=david-agosti&pid=192119440&fhid=27574

Should have been on this year's list really, so a bit of a miss there.

Was posted two hours earlier in the Star Wars thread.  Bit of a miss there.
